She's not a character anymore, she's just an advancing wall of doom, a buster call, a birdcage, a time limit, whatever you wanna call it. She isn't thinking straight, and if she were she would make quick work of the SHs instead of conveniently wasting time destroying Nuts Island. Her hunger pangs doesn't make her more powerful, it nerfs her, her competence, her agency, and her role in the story. Brings her down from character to the level of a plot device.

It's disappointing, but I'm giving Oda a pass on the assumption she's returning during Elbaf and going to be given her due there.

This is what I've been saying, Big Mom has never been a villain to take down, she is basically a force of nature. There's a reason she is an old lady, because in her entire life, there was NEVER anyone who was her equal, not even the Pirate King himself. She is an obstacle to be worked around. A hurricane of gluttony and rape that tears through the new world, leaving a wake of death and biracial babies. There is only one fitting end for someone like Big Mom: running out of time. Dying of old age before her dreams come to fruition, the knowledge that even with the greatest strength in the world, the most influential devil fruit in the world, the largest armies and territories in the world, she STILL could not make her dream a reality.

And yet, Luffy will succeed her. Without any of those things.

I really like this idea. Still my own was different, I was under the impression she genuinely enjoys challenges, and that nothing would please her more than a good fight. She might deny it but she obviously enjoys people like Luffy who have enough backbone to pick a fight with her instead of crawling at her feet like most do. I think she'll fall in battle, content and satisfied.

I think it's less that she wants a challenge, because having her poneglyph stolen isn't exactly her idea of a challenge, it's cheating in her eyes. I think she only picks fights because she know's she'll win, it's why she avoids goading kaido into a battle, because that would actually be challenging. She's haughty and proud, I don't think losing in battle has any particular meaning to her, she is a pirate after all.

More than the fights I love how Oda uses its drawing style to create a world with plenty of human variety (count minks, gyojins and that stuff into that), and how physical appearance doesn't seem to care in terms of importance and power.

I mean, fucking Dragon's right hand is a giant headed, curly-haired genderfluid okama that is able to kill you with a gay as fuck wink, and nobody is judging him because of that. At all.

Same shit with giant people. It's like Oda was trying to say "yeh, some people is taller than another, so fucking what".

I like that there are a fuckton of characters and only rarely do they feel like missed opportunities.

I remember when I was into Naruto years ago how much I hated the distribution of time between characters. The Chunin Exams and the Retrieval arcs were the strongest at the time and still hold up because they explore characters that aren't Naruto. Eventually it became if your name wasn't Shikamaru you had no hope of getting screen time as a side character. And I liked a lot of those characters in the brief glimpses we got.

I don't feel that way about One Piece. We get new characters all the time, they go through their character arcs, and even after they leave they're still in the story and cover pages and shit. Characters like Brook and Bege seem underwhelming at first, but eventually get a chance to shine

We've already seen that when she gets crazy over food, the moment she's fed/gorged herself, she passes out.

Love doesn't need reasons user. It elects your loved one by giving them value just because they exists. I love it because I love it.
Though I do agree with you on the diversity, that's definitely one of the aspects of One Piece I like the most (inb4 guaranteed (you)s from Sup Forums).

I like how characters aren't isolated. One thing I hated about DragonBall even though I love it, was how Goku never became famous. When I first got into OP I loved how Luffy was gaining fame through his adventures. Then there's the world building where we can see how many levels there are to strength, the powers that keep things in check, and how far Luffy needs to go. Contrast that to Dragonball where it feels like the next level is made up on the spot (probably because it was). You would have Kami, then King Kai, then Supreme Kai, etc.... With strength, there is Piccolo until the new villain comes, and then the next villain is made up on the spot, but wait this magical pink ball is also stronger, etc....

Zoro ate it just fine tho

That's why I expect the BMP will become allies by the end of this arc somehow. Oda can't possibly let the SHs escape without BM killing a few of their relatives as payback. If he does he'll have to invent quite a contrived reason not to let it happen.

Man, there's too many good food name options to count. I'd definitely like a name that goes well with whatever ability I'd get, if any at all. But, if I had to choose blindly then I'd go with Ravioli or some other form of pasta.

She definitely cares as she's making plans to defeat other yonkou. If not, she wouldn't make a stand in the New World and perish like the rest of the hot shots.

Expanding your battle strength to crush your opponents and fearing them are two different things. I don't think she minds butting heads when the situation calls for it.
