I mean look at this animation. These are all still frames directly from the movie, all hand drawn.
...
the only problem is that there is nothing to the movie except for the animation.
What's wrong with the plot compared to any other racing show? What was missing exactly?
>look at this animation
>posts a still
You had best not be ignoring the OST.
That's not fair. There is a plot, and it's not like every character is there as a set piece, they're all doing their own thing and it all comes together in the race
Not him but if you remove all the interesting side characters, the plot doesn't have much depth.
>lose race due to gangsters
>enter big race and get interested in chick
>race
>finish race with chick and win while your mechanic has a change of heart
I love the movie and it's simply an embodiment of style over substance,
which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

>If you remove all the interesting stuff, its not very interesting!
Hmmmmmmmm
Agreed.
Name another anime where hair wins the day.
character movement looks like flash animation
Something looks like it went horribly wrong during transcoding.
It's not even the best Madhouse movie. Memories blows it out of the water.
JP is the best MC
All anime is hand drawn retard.
Because it's not supposed to look like that. guy who posted the clip fucked up the encoding.
Yamada movies > Ghibli movies > literally everything else
>Ghibli movies
Overrated as fuck.
Only Miyazaki ones, others are ok.
*blocks your path*
Not even memeing
It's not
Style is substance
>All anime is hand drawn retard.
Well, they are somewhat overrated, but still pretty damn good. Fuck I love castle in the sky.
Not a Meme, it is simply truth.
Fucking Masterpiece.
I probably don't get half of what's happening, but I just love this movie.
Overrated pseudo intellectual garbage
You're memeing, right?
...
Sorry. No.
The difference between this and you can tell they were fucking done after so many years doing that same shit.
Only a very small percentage is foot drawn.
This is accurate, it was great to look at but storywise it was absymal.
Redline is one of the best since it came out, but ever? My vote would go towards whatever your favourite Miyazaki or Takahata film is, with the edge going to Horus.
Kek
Only the yellow line part was good. It's a shit movie and I was completely disappointed after waiting for so long
Abysmal seems a massive exaggeration
It was far from abysmal, it was just simple which isn't nessisarily a bad thing. There was a goal and a conflict, the characters weren't totally static and the end left nothing to question.
I think everyone expects groundbreaking, mind blowing story telling for all movies and is disappointed when it isn't that.
The simple story played well into all the pretty colors.
That looks interpolated.
I thought Redline race didn't deliver and was kind of dissapointed at first. Then I noticed everything beside it was great and race itself was just excuse to show all awesome characters and everything that went behind scenes.
I love Redline but R.O.D is still my favorite anime movie.
HAND-DRAWN
A cool thing is that the story on the surface level is pretty simple but there's a bunch of hints and subtle stuff sprinkled all over the movie that tell you a lot more about the world, the characters and the story.
What's this? look interesting.
*makes the exact same movie he always does*
I had to watch it a few times before realizing Machinehead was Crab Sonoshee's dad.
i never watched it

>What's the best anime movie ...
Expelled from Paradise
>... and why is it by far Redline from Madhouse?
Of course it is not.
Well thats just like your opinion man
Pic related for best franchise, best studio, best fanbase, best VA's, best movie.
Anime movie. Ow god what a tough Question.
Well atleast it ain't a bad mecha movie then.
That makes sense.
Close.
Wait, are you talking about the car?
rewatched GitS recently to compare to live action. Both had dead acting, not as good as I remember, similar to Kite. I honestly like the later series better. Was it just a style?
>look at this animation
regresa a facebook hispachanero garca.
>Horus
never heard of this, will give it a watch.
directing, animation, music, everything is pretty fantastic
Nope.
During the restaurant scene, she remarks to JP that she's waiting on someone, and that her dad WAS a racer, owned a junk joint, put together vehicles for races, all past participle - and when Machinehead arrives, she stands and gestures in his direction.
Machinehead =/= not sonoshee's dad
Sonoshee's dad = dead
If it isn't the greatest ever made, then it's the most important.
This
It's GitS '95. Emotional, intellectual, beautifully animated, with fantastic and masterfully used music.
But Redline is fucking great.
And this is why you don't force 60fps on anime, it's not a videogame
Contrarian
Redline was good.
Where my Sword of the Stranger bros at
one and only
The subduded tone is very, very much Oshii's style; see both Patlabors, Angel's Egg, Beautiful Dreamer.
In my opinion it's perfect for a story like GitS and it's uncomforrable wuestions about humanity.
Mind game is better if you want something whacky/unique.
Millennium actress because way underrated and rarely talked about on this board.
Millennium Actress is heavily overrated.
Basically Style over substance : The movie
Never seen it, but you should know by now that style is substance.
Shut the fuck up
>that style is substance
Only for neo-Sup Forums
>if you remove all the interesting side characters
What interesting side characters?
For any visual medium
Heavy use or CGI
trashed
>I probably don't get half of what's happening
So basically you consider it a masterpiece because it looks cool
Just like literally every single person who thinks Redline has any merit to it whatsoever.
Can't really argue with claim. Redline is best anime movie. Sucks it'll never get the world-building anime adapation it originaly was supposed to get.
just because style is substance doesnt mean style is the only component of substance worth paying attention to.
That was never implied
I agree, but never suggested otherwise
>All anime is hand drawn
I read an article somewhere connecting Ghost in the Shell to European filmmakers like Godard, describing the dialogue as textural and the language as impotent, able to describe but not affect this world in which so many old concepts have been rendered obsolete. I felt this interpretation was good.
Watched Tokyo Godfathers for the first time recently and it'r pretty great not which which Kon I prefer more that or Millenium Actress.
