Comics are for nerds in America. Manga is for everybody in Japan.

But not only Americans buy American comic books, user. Supes, Batman, and Spidey are well-loved worldwide. To have at least one of them being beaten by a manga whose worldwide popularity isn't even on the same level as Naruto and Dragon Ball is really weird.

Spider-man is shit anyway.

>But not only Americans buy American comic books,
But all American comic books are for nerds.
It's all cape shit.

So is WanPiss

That's just a testament to how fucking crazy OP's domestic sales are.

cause marvel sucks.

I think you don't know how huge One Piece is in Japan.

>The Beano.
Jesus fucking christ nostalgia.

I don't think anyone outside of america buys superhero comics

Firstly, Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man are not only loved by nerds, they are THE three superheroes that the average joe know of. Secondly, One Piece IS capeshit. It's an action comic series where the characters fight with superpowers.

Does it matter? Spider-Man does in a year more than One Piece can do in 10

>any action series where characters fight with superpowers is capeshit
That's not how it works.

It bugs me that the creator of Spider-Man is left as blank.

Gee, I don't know

>1 billion
Nothing shall ever beat the Mouse.

>One Piece IS capeshit. It's an action comic series where the characters fight with superpowers.

>Firstly, Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man are not only loved by nerds,
The comic books are only bought by nerds though. It's the movies that everybody watches. It's a recent phenomenon that people are not sure how to explain. But whatever the reason is, it does not translate to an increase in actual nerds in America, as evidenced by a continuation of the horrible sales of capeshit comics.

Apparently the German mouse is beating the original mouse.

Taking into account that OP will probably keep going for at least 10 more years, with sales constantly increasing, will it ever hit 1 billion?

It's by German Disney Publishing. Isn't "Maus" how you say "Mouse" in German, anyway?

>implying Spider-Shit doesn't deserve it after the shit they pulled with Aunt May and Peter and Mary Jane's marriage

If Superman can't, One Piece sure as hell won't.

Nobody buy super hero comics, they are expensive as fuck and nobody cares
Super heroes are mostly mainstream in cinema, comics are niche

I dont really care about either of those but why would not be happy about once piece's success over spiderman, I mean this being Sup Forums and all.

Supes has been going on for way longer. One Piece has been selling much faster.

Safe to say that it will at least beat Superman though.

Mauser

There's no need to be upset.

It is.

>the beano
The fuck is this shit, I've never heard of it and I'm no neophyte

Eh, I don't know about that. Almost 200 million gap.

America shit

>Quesada and Slott, two self-proclaimed lifelong Spidey fans, are the two biggest culprits for Spidey's tanking sales

>not sure how to explain
Isn't it simple? Reading is for faggots blah blah.
Plus capeshit comics are recycled garbage and your average person probably wouldn't even know where to begin. Too much effort.

muh shonen boogieman

It's Brit.

>Reading is for faggots blah blah.
How does that explain the recent popularity of capeshit movies?

>expensive

Superhero comics are 4 bucks per issue and they come out once a month, no?

It's a weekly British comics magazine. Imagine SJ but for britbongs. It publishes the comic strips of Dennis the Menace, among others. It's been in print since 1938.

That's 4 bucks for a single chapter.
Manga are roughly the same price and usually come with 10 chapters.

Probably cultural osmosis.
You don't need to ever have read Spiderman to know about Spiderman. Everyone knows about Spiderman.

I'm not shocked. I've always felt Spider-Man was always a very meh superhero. Granted his premise is neat, the character dynamic is good but god when you look at his history it's a very boring overall series.

>literally all of them have been published for over 50 years except one piece

Just because you know him doesn't mean you want to watch him. Just a few years ago a friend of mine told me he didn't want to watch a certain movie because it was a kids' movie. What elevated capeshit from kids's/nerds' stuff (which the comics still are) to serious business that you could take your girlfriend to on a date?

But Spiderman pilots a giant mecha in Japan. In fact, he's the first tokusatsu superhero to pilot a giant mecha.

You're deluded if you think One Piece's worldwide popularity doesn't excel Naruto's. Thats only in America because of the shitty dub.

OP is more popular than Naruto inside Japan, but not outside of it. I'm not sure about DB.

Watching stuff has always been easier than reading stuff. And there's a big chance that many youngsters back then watched the old Spiderman cartoons.
They were iconic, after all.

Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can...

Idk, at least in Spain more people know One Piece.

Spider-Man isn't a single long running story.

And if you don't know the significance of this page than you don't realize that One Piece continues to progress every chapter.

You are not answering the question.

fucking red line was 400 chapters ago
God how old am I.

Because modern Marvel comics are hot garbage.

Looking back, it's nice to see Luffy being over-confident in that page only to shortly after getting beaten to pulp, getting separated from his crew, getting beaten to a pulp again to almost death, and lastly seeing his older brother killed right in front of him that made him undergo a time-skip training after realizing how weak he was.

It is easy to explain, comics are shit and the movies are deliberately designed to stray as away as possible from their source material so they can appeal to normal people.

You don't read movies.

But did it outsell Looney Tunes?

Looney Tunes comics aren't even listed.

Looney Tunes has comics?

Because Spiderman has been terribly mismanaged for over a decade now.

>Hey lets kill Mary Jane
>Lets bring her back
>Lets have them get together
>Alright now we have them happy now lets tear them apart and give Peter a new love interest
>Oh shit sales are tanking better kill the character our fans read Spiderman for and replace him with a black man to pander to our audience
>Oh look it turns out that darkie was reading for Peter better bring him back
>Oh look superior spiderman and Peters evil

Honestly Spiderman hasn't been good since 2003

They used to, like 30 years ago. The comic industry killed itself in like the 90s and has been a rotting corpse since. All the SJW shit is just freaks defecating on a corpse

Sounds like standard comic storytelling to me.

I always wonder how come comic books are always sold exclusively at comic books store and not at other places too.

Yes but spiderman was unique as other comics followed it. When they stopped doing that, ruined Peter and MJ's happily ever after and kill Peter it was just past the breaking point of WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?

Spidermans story could have just ended with his marriage to MJ and then have a new spiderman showing up who is taught by peter on occasion but no you have to fuck everything up because modern day comicbook writers are fucking hacks I would rather read Bleach than anything from Marvel or DC. Barring the Dark Knight spinoffs as they are more just so absurd that it's almost getting back to the roots of what made comics great originally

>or DC
But DC Rebirth has been really good.

It's basically New 52 but unfocused and just throwing whatever they think the fans want. It is poorly thought out in fact it isn't. you can tell they are evaluating what to pull in from the old verse arc by arc to pander to fans. JUST STOP PANDERING. Tell an absurd story tell a funny story tell a tragic story but make it fucking coherent and decent

Better pandering to fans than pandering to demographic who doesn't even buy their stuff (Marvel).

>tfw I used to buy those Micky Maus magazines

They always had some toy in it. One of them even had a plastic version of a swiss army knife that required you to buy like 3 magazines to get all the parts.

Oh I'm sorry did you miss Black Superman, which was actually good, or black Trevor? How about the new black female green lantern who was so shit they pretty much stopped giving her any dialog what so ever?

It's both parties that are doing this shit. DC does have better writing than Marvel on average as Marvel tries to maintain it's universe but that ruins the single character focus experience which DC does not it's just not always a good experience with DC.

>Capeshit getting blown the fuck out

You guys are forgetting that nowadays nobody reads Marvel comics anymore, it's all about cinematic universe/TV series/Netflix.

I never understood why comicfags were so upset about this, maybe it is because I don't read comics but as far as I understand nothing ever gets done in comics, everything always gets reseted. Continuity doesn't matter in comics, it just exist as a form of fanservice, the past doesn't matter and the future doesn't exist, characters are in a constant present were everything can happen but nothing has long lasting consequences. The only thing that matters is what story they are telling at that specific moment.
Maybe I am wrong but thats what it looks like.

One Piece is the most popular manga in Japan itself by a massive margin. Consider that it sells millions of volumes annually, gets multiple volume releases per year, and has been running for 2 decades, the majority of those as Jump's top dog.
There is no comparison. Comic books are for nerds and nobody cares about them. Even salarymen read One Piece in Japan.

I want to argue this but I can't because Slott has been on the book for over a decade

Because marvel is shit even for western standard now.

One Piece cinematic universe when?

>DC Rebirth
I don't follow comics so I'm not up to speed but you mean to tell me they rebooted it again?
How the fuck do you guys put up with this shit? Reading about the same characters over and over again just with different writers?

Come on, Superior Spiderman was good.

At least Bendis is gone now.

One Piece will probably end on chapter 1200 with 120 volumes.
It was at a little over 300 million in 2015 when it got the Guinness world record for best selling manga and now it's at over 430 million, that's over 100 million in 2 years.
Add in the growing foreign sales especially china, it will easily break 1 billion by the time it ends.

Happening as a TV series at least.

No, it's not really a reboot, it's just a fuck up in the timeline caused by The Flash/Wally West that cancels his own existence from everyone's mind.

Not enough budget. I want a Zack Snyder One Piece cinematic universe. He's the only director I trust to do these kinds of fight scenes justice.

>Zack Snyder

He should do Bleach.

The good thing about Spidey was that his stories were never about saving the universe where stuff just becomes bullshit after bullshit, but that he was pretty mundane.

>Zack Snyder
ew

That's what happens when you full SJW

That could work. A director whose only saving grace is doing cool looking shit adapting a manga whose only saving grace is looking cool.

What happened to Disney?
I remember when I was a kid Mickey Mouse still used to be this huge icon. You'd see top quality Mickey cartoons on TV and shit.

the Beano is or was pretty OK last time I read it years ago gnasher

I wonder why the old animations seem more appealing than the recent versions...

OP is much bigger than Naruto in Europe

I'm more disgusted that trash like One Piece sold better than classics like Lucky Luke or Asterix.

>final Asterix comic was making fun of anime
>was the worst comic they ever made and everyone hated it

Really makes you think.

What do you mean by "final" exactly?
The series is still ongoing

*Dennis the Menace

I remember watching this on TV. Shit was fucking hilarious.

I legit thought it died after the Asterix and the falling Sky comic.
