How did you get into anime?

How did you get into anime?

I used to watch lots of anime with based Mexican dub

My sister borrowed Negima (The Shaft anime specifically) from the library, I enjoyed watching it with her and the rest is history.

I see

watching it on tv, but it's been so long my memory is hazy
I think it was shurato or sailor moon, I don't even know which is older anymore

>Mexican dub
you mean dubbed in Spanish?

Yes

Saw a video of Yoko from TTGL on youtube, arosed, watch this 'anime' thing. Was so epic and awesome I stopped watching it for boobies and watched it for action and badassary.
That was so long ago...

RTL2

Watched Inuyasha on TV when I was little.

I watched officially "got" into anime by watching online streams in 2008 even if I saw couple of anime series back when I was a child.

anime on late night tv

Went straight to Evangelion.

I used to watch gantz and ergo proxy with my friends instead of sleeping before our morning paper route.

At least it's difficult to be dissapointed by ither anime if you start with garbage

pokito mfer

First child anime was Digimon, along with Tenchi on Toonami. First anime I watched after knowing what anime is is Bleach, then Azumanga Daioh. Good times.

>casually watched Pokemon and DBZ as a kid
>gave it all up after my parents relentlessly mocked it
>swore it all off as dumb and stupid

>happened upon Outlaw Star a year or two later
>seemed pretty cool
>got the episode introducing Aisha
>9-year-old me found her really interesting for some reason

Release of Katawa ShoujoHanako a cute

Then I went straight to Haruhi.

I'm from Spain, I used to watch dubbed anime that was very popular around here like Pokemon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Doraemon and Crayon Shin Chan.
Years later I never watched anime until Death Note started airing and I found the premise interesting, so I started watching it.
Many years later the same thing happened when I found out about Kaiji and how it had the same composer from Death Note making the music, absolutely loved it.
After that I watched K-ON because I was curious about what the rest of the medium was like, and that's when I started regularly downloading and watching anime.

RTL2 a shit

>Watched Pokemon, Yugioh and DBZ on tv as a kid.
>Started watching OG Digimon on YouTube.
>Other anime started showing up on recommended videos.
>Was really into vampires at the time. First anime that I knew was an anime was Vampire Knight (Lmao thanks DEEN).
>Next was Trinity Blood. Then started watching some ecchi shit cause horny teenager.
>Then discovered Ghost in the Shell SAC. Got hooked and the rest is history

Watched dubbed anime like everyone else when I was a kid. Subbed anime started when I saw a Haruhi gif and was interested. Was my first subbed anime and since then haven't looked back.

Watched a bunch of Toonami as a kid at my Japanese neighbors house, loved DBZ

Two years later my Fujo babysitter showed me Ranma 1/2 subbed, and I popped my first boner. I was simultaneously confused and aroused. The rest is weaboo history.

watched some things on adult swim like inuyasha and dot hack

eventually went online and watched a few more
chobits was the point of no return for me. its power was too much for my adolescent boners and brought me over to the weeb side for good

My parents rented me a VHS of Bubblegum Crisis and it has been downhill since that time.

Toonami and shitty flash games on newgrounds.

My dad bought me VNS of gunbuster. I thought it was pretty cool and start wathing anime.i'm 48.

I used to watch Astro Boy with my Dad when I was like 6 or 7.

I was broke in college and needed something to do with my time. Piracy was pretty easy, and that hobby developed from there. I think the first show was FLCL (this was 2010, although I'd been on Sup Forums in some capacity since 06).

Technically there was Pokemon/etc as a kid, but I only watched those dubbed on American television.

One of the very few/only good memories I have of my dad was he had all of Dragon ball and Z on VHS. That and darkstalkers was the only enjoyable part of seeing him every few years.

didn't even like it to begin with. first scene I saw was piccolo's arm getting blasted off
i cried
bet ya can't guess my race! XD

>tfw he died two months ago

Bump

I watched Maya the Bee as a kid in the early 90s on YTV when I was 4 or 5, and really liked it. The 90s rolled along, and Sailor Moon came next, then Dragonball Z, then Pokemon. At the time I didn't realize any of it was Japanese. It wasn't until I was 14 in the early 00s and a friend and I rented Neon Genesis Evangelion on VHS that I realized it was a Japanese art style and medium.

And that's how I got into anime. I'm 28 now. I've gone in and out of anime for years at a time, but it will always be something I go back to when I'm bored enough.

I watched doraemon as a kid on fridays and usually watched crayon shinchan after that or nintama rantaro (wasnt as fun as doraemon tho).

Saturday morning Sailor Moon. No, I'm a guy.

Hentai

When I was younger here in Brazil had a program called Tv Globinho where besides American cartoons it showed animes (Sakura Card Captors, Samurai X, DBZ, etc ...)

BR? BR? Huehuehue.

Me too, but I'm much older. The only anime I was really into as a kid was Groizer X, but I watched some of the tokusatsu that were big here in the late 80s / early 90s.

Then, earlier this year I re-discovered anime with SNK's 2nd season. Now I'm a grown man who reads Sup Forums and watches chinese cartoons with CGDCT.

In 2006-07, I started renting a lot of anime from Netflix and eventually I was looking into anime that was airing. I then started watching Higurashi on youtube and once I caught up, I started downloading and weekly.

google Cinemark Anime Night.

It's a shame he started with Evangelion, then.

>spic
>Animes
Can I get some chemo on aisle three

Found Zero no Tsukaima on YT. Then I fell into the rabbit hole.

What keeps you addicted to Sup Forums

Back in my day they aired a lot of anime on TV, Ranma, Lupen, Kimagure orange road, Captain Tsubasa, Mazinger Z, Ironman 28, Heidi, Maya the honey bee, Sherlock Hound, Maple town, Vicky the viking, Robotech (well, not really anime, but whatever) and a lot more. Most western cartoons couldn't compete and anime tiddies during Saturday/Sunday morning were glorious (googled the pic, don't hate on me).

Yeah

Good times

A combination of anime creeping onto western cartoon channels in the early 2000s and also showing on late night TV.

I grew up with Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Cowboy Bebop so I was somewhat familiar with the medium when I returned to it as a teenager. My interest really took off when I first saw more adult shows like Evangelion and Elfen Lied. I've been watching anime regularly ever since.

Yeah same, my uncle showed me dragon ball and when i was a little bigger ranma 1/2 then i started looking for more and here we are, funny thing is that he only watched those animes as kid but when i satarted watching anime for real i got him back at it i think i created a monster

Pirata do Espaço? Tu é velho pra porra, hein Started with Voltron, Robotech and Tetsujin 28 in the late 80s, then came Zillion, Doraemon, Nick & Neck and other series, but everything changed with Saint Seiya in 94, after that everyone knew about anime and manga.

I'm not really addicted, I only visit for a few minutes each day to shitpost and follow the shows I'm interested in. I first "joined"/started lurking because of the culture (and being an edgelord teenager), but over time I became interested in more boards which made it easier to browse casually (read a new book so go to /lit/, moved to a new town so browse /trv/, etc).

I do supplement it with other forums/discussions, but Sup Forums has developed a niche that's unique and makes it worth following.

>more adult shows like 2 shows made for teenagers

Dad got me into robotech when I was three. Been a /m/fag ever since

All anime is for children and teenagers. "More adult" just means the target demographic is closer to adults than it is to children.

I used to visit an internet forum where most of the users were anime fans so I started watching what was popular there at the time to know what the big deal was, which was mostly Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star and Haruhi. Then I started hanging out on the specific anime part of the forum, which broaded my horizons and also made me start reading One Piece.

my dad

I knew everything about games and movies, so I needed a new medium in which to be an elitist and I'm happy to tell you I've succeeded.

And you all have shit taste.

>And you all have shit taste.
That explains we all had a turn with you're mom, lol

>seegood jojo meme
>watch jojo on crunchyroll.
simple as that.

Pokemon-->Dragon Ball Z-->Lost cable, read manga because dbz. Read basically all the well known 90s/00s shonen-->Get cable back and internet in highschool-->mostly continue reading manga but now also online-->really get into anime because of Gurren Lagann, starting binging

Sick roast.

When I was six Father gave me ninja scroll, fist of the north star and a hentai called battle Lakers ex on VHS. Which was basically sailor moon with sex. When sailor moon started airing on TV I was always confused on why they never had sex to power up. I watched the whole series dubbed why it aired hoping one day it would be a sex scene.

cool

Did your father ever realise he gave you porn?

I watched Robotech as a kid, kept trying to find other cartoons with giant robots. This led to renting Tech Police and Tran Zor Z from the video store, and eventually renting Bubblegum Crisis.

Started streaming eva after seeing it mentioned somewhere. Whatever shitty site I was using at the time only had half the episodes dubbed so I switched over to subs half way. It also had a truly horrific "240p" illegible hardsub of F/SN which would later put me off streaming for good.
Think the second thing I watched was bleach, which I was incredibly misinformed about and, prior to the first episode, thought was a hospital drama for some reason.

>love Dragon Ball as a kid like literally every kid ever
>go to store to buy more dragon ball
>entire shelves of other series with flashy covers appealing to a young demographic
>never look back
also pokémon anime on saturday mornings

Although I watched anime without really realising it when I was younger (i.e. dragon ball z, pokemon, etc.), I didn't really get into it until I was about 17. I found some really bad quality segmented clips of episodes of FLCL on youtube in 2006-2007, and watched a bit (convinced I wouldn't finish it). Fast forward 2 hours and I'd almost complete it, and I was a weeb for life.

Watched astroboy, mazinger z, gamba no bouken, candy candy in early 90's in my childhood.

The local channels used to air a fuckton of anime. I even remember watching Evangelion when I was seven years old.

My friends older brother use to trade VHS tapes with shitty yellow subs. We would swipe tapes while him and his friends were getting high and watch them because we'd never seen anything like it before (Project A-ko Gunsmith Cats, Bubblegum Crisis are the ones I remember). After that I started to see anime on the International Channel in the late 90's. Not long after that I started buying VHS with subs on them and a handful of years later getting into fansubs online.

Underage b&. ARD and ZDF had the anime back when I was a little shota.

What a nice Chilindrina

I'm old

Maria Antonieta de las Nieves confirmed for Love Live mexican dub

>Mazinger Z
Remember Aphrodite's torpedo tits? and their buddy who kidnapped the scientists to build him a scrap robot out of spare parts and was always getting into trouble? Good times..

I needed a back-up medium for the times i'd get tired of vidya, and I stumbled on OPM a year ago or so (not even from MAL, Reddit, Sup Forums or Gaia, just a clueless fuck who's chronically late) which reignited a fire in my soul and made me always look out for new stuff to watch.

>I'm not really addicted
Late reminder you're here forever.

You probably subconsciously associated Bleach with Scrubs because both words have to do with cleaning

Yeah he did. He felt if he hides things from kids they would be more curious about it and attempt to do it than just showing them and telling the truth about it.

One of my first experiences with anime was back in 1997 when my dad let me watch his Akira and Ranma tapes, but I didn't fully get into anime until 2001~2002. This was around the time when Adult Swim began airing anime on Saturday nights, and - at the same time - the International Channel aired subtitled and raw JP anime. I don't like admitting it, but television was the most convenient and cost effective method to get anime back in those days. Back then, Anime rips on the Internet were in a Real Media Player format, and it ran at potato resolution with a bitrate worse than the Sega CD'S; BitTorrent just started the same year and barely took off. I really wish I could relive those days.

Basically via mangas.
I always "read" comics and manga since i'm a little kid so it was only naturally that i would eventually get into anime.

I saw some PSG thing on /f/ in 2011 or maybe 2012, and I decided to watch it.
Then I came here and decided to go balls-deep.

a really fat guy with glasses and acne gave me a usb stick with elfen lied on it in middle school and when I gave it back he put death note on it

Back when I was a kid (early 2000's) there was a tv channel called Locomotion, which featured adult animation. Things like Bob & Margaret, Duckman, South Park, Dr Katz, as well as plenty of japanese animation like Gasaraki, Saber Marionette, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Arjuna, Eatman, Bubblegum Crisis, The Animatrix and many more, mostly subbed. I was hooked immediately. Rip Loco.

Yup

Enjoyed the based Mexican dub of Saber Marionette J, Cyberpunk in Akihabara, Agent Aika etc

(You)

>Crunchyroll
nice

Well you seem to have developed good taste.

But it's true. All anime is for children and teenagers.

So are you baiting or legitimately unaware?

Shh, he's just pretending to be retarded. Stop replying to him and he'll go away.

But then how will we bump the thread?
t. NSA

Go ahead then, name an anime "for adults" that isn't literal porn lmao.

bit late, but there's a BIG difference between spanish (mexico) dub and spanish (spain) dubs.

a difference as big as the sea between them, hell in several cases i'd say the mexican dub is better than the english one.

>that gohan scene on mexican dub

It was either middle school or very early in high school that I started to watch it. I remember watching FLCL on adult swim and getting into that along with Cowboy Bebop. Then I saw a random gif online from PSG while it was airing and sunk countless hours of my life into anime ever since.
