Not precisely southamerica but it seems to be more a burger problem, for some reason anime is looked down upon in the USA like the worst thing ever and people that liked it there are complexed about it, while in other countries its seen as something normal, back in school like 15 years ago I still remember how all the cool kids liked Yu Yu Hakusho and Card Captor Sakura(and the nerds liked Pokemon), so anime spread much more freely here, but for some reason in burgerland you get bullied if you go with your Naruto shirt to school or some shit like that, I don't really know, just assuming here.
