Would've been more interesting if he went for Akari to be honest. Hina's fine, but they were both lonely and stressed, and both seemed to take comfort in each other's company. More uncommon type of pairing too I think. Whereas the romance with Hina sort of feels like it came out of nowhere, as cute as it is.

I don't think Rei wanted someone to mother him, which a relationship with Akari would have been like. He wanted someone who would make him feel like a man, who needed his protection, and a younger girl like Hina could give him that.

I agree user. Rei has felt his whole life as a burden to others. I think if he ended up going for Akari then that would defeat his character growth bc she would baby him. Meanwhile Hina is in need of help and the odea of being the helper rather than the helped complements his character growth.

I'd agree if not for the fact that Akari needed an actual man and not just someone to mother (she has two of those already in her sisters), the idea would be that both of them would grow to fit that if that makes sense.
