What many of them do is work seasonal jobs. They work in resorts, as servers or labour jobs. They work all season long, then get laid off in the fall. Since they don't care for tomorrow, they take every dime they saved all season and go travelling for a few months. Then they show up back in town for the next season and do it all over again.
Now some of them are able to come home to mom and dad's and live there rent free. So their lifestyle is subsidized by them. Others just rely on a social network of others like them. They come back, rent a place together and give it up at the end of the season and take off, sometimes together.
But it's a Peter Pan lifestyle, and eventually it will come back to bite them when they're in their 40s. They have no savings, no assets, no retirement plan. They're going to be fucked. But that's okay, they have a really cool Facebook photo of them with a Tiger kitten on Quaaludes in Phucket.

It's pays relatively well, has some nice benefits and there always be free time for you to do what you want.
