Goku x Chichi is going to be the worst pairing forever. Never kissed, their kids were made by rape and Goku being a shit father helps too.
The pairing was going a decent route before Sasuke left and it had plenty of build up, he was warming up to her and all. Then the other shitfest happened but it's still much more than you can say about others Naruto pairings with the exception of Shikamaru and Temari maybe.

I often think about this too. But I can't help but think it reflects what Kishimoto thinks of society and growing up. When you grow up you have to find yourself a match so you can mary and have kids. That's just what you do. Doesn't matter whether you have feelings or not, whether your feelings are misguided or not, whether you're happy together or not, or even whether you're together. It's just so awful. You'd think editors are there to tell an author when what he's doing is bullshit and that children who will grow up and mary one day are reading it but somehow this got greenlighted and it's fucking terrible.
At least SP does a good job of showing just how awful the whole situation really is, unlike Kishimto who does nothing except glorify Sakura's loyalty toward her husband, as well as Sasuke's sense of duty and the "sacrifice" he's making by staying away from his family.

I never get why shonen protagonists, who are characters that usually put themselves in many life threatening situations and often have to leave their loved ones for whatever reason, have children. If you're not going to be able to take care of your child properly and you know it, then why have them in the first place? Not only Sasuke, but Naruto as well has to put his family in second place all the time thanks to his job, leaving his kid and wife understandably frustrated, and they're framed as the ones being in the wrong instead of the parents who decided to have children fully knowing they wouldn't be able to be there for them when they need them. Goku too is also guilty of this.

The problem with shojo is that if you're gonna tell a romance centered story then of course it's just better when the relationship has a lot of problems with it. Which of course tends to lead to the portrayal of terrible relationships. Not always, but very often. Which is also why the bastard boyfriend trope lives strong to this day.
Luckily as you said, stuff like Ouran or Kiminotodoke, where the obstacles aren't just the main boy's douchebaggery but the flaws of both characters who would be involved in a relationship. Though I'll admit I barely remember the main boy in Kimini having flaws. Wasn't he just a popular cardboard cutout?

The problem with shojo is that the romance is idealized too much. Often two characters that have nothing in common are paired up because of a common quirk or "opposites attract", regardless of whether the relationship would work in the long term.
Kimini was good because the romance's main obstacle was the self-improvement and genuine character flaws.

Naruto wanted a family and finally got to make one. It's a Good End for him. It isn't his fault that he woefully underestimated the duties that being a Kage entailed and he does strain himself to try and make get togethers and shit.
