Started watching Slayers the other day, currently have the first series and the OVAs. What order should I be watching everything in, and should I bother with the newer series from 2008 or so?

The newer series are an abomination. Don't watch R/evolution.

OVAs and films are prequels of a sort. They are kind of random, you can watch them in any order.
The TV show goes:
Slayers > Slayers NEXT > Slayers TRY > Slayers Revolution > Slayers Evolution
