As to intelligent design, that isn't confirmation of intelligent design. Absence in itself or systems layered upon systems isn't a proof of intelligent design unless there is evidence that suggests it didn't occur naturally.
However, I do not doubt that it is within the capabilities of a sufficiently advanced species to engage in intelligent design and to manipulate the fabric of the universe. The existence of things that traditionally reflect divine aspects IS NOT an impossibility. I personally view it as something for humanity to reach and surpass.
