this is true. I grew up in a small town that was by a 12 mile long sort of lake community. everyone living by the shoreline was a millionaire. Hes basically correct but it depends, if you are working for someone else the best you'll get is 200 GBP a day (sometimes more but its uncommon) which is just over 40k annual after income taxes. However if you run your own ship you can earn decent especially when you get some networking done and have consistent contracts and you can just take on as much as is offered and if its too much you just begin to sub-contract labour. Yeah things did get fucked by immigration but construction wages have basically stayed the same (and barely improved just a little bit - although gains have been lost from increased regulations + all other costs going up + inflation + higher taxation) thanks to the need to house these people plus our own domestic population, I still however believe that had we had a strict immigration policy wages would be higher for construction workers. There were still blokes I worked with that were getting paid more in the 90s for the same amount of work, quite sad really as becoming a tradesman is a great alternative to the education route and it really puts hairs on your chest whilst also teaching you how to start a business.

First, you are wrong on partners’ salaries, the 1.5 million is the figure for a few select firms’ equity partners. Fewer than 1 percent are in this earnings bracket. And as an associate your salaray actually increases rather slowly.
Second, 85k in the UK is shit nothing. In New York starting salaries in law are 180k plus bonus.
Third, as a lawyer I tell you, big law is shit. I worked in NYC and London for many years and while the money is nice, I hated my life - I liked what I waa doing on a technical and challenge level but it made absolutely zero sense for society.
Fourth, whoever seriously thinks about having a career in law, finance or management consulting in a big city better look out for mission creep. It is a world devoit of meaning and full of mentally deranged people. The thing you add to society is paper (electronic or real) - if you can live working long hours and weekends potentially sacrificing your health and sanity for paper just so you earn ok, fine. Otherwise, stay away from this path.
