So Sup Forums, what do you think about the biggest new mecha series in years?

So Sup Forums, what do you think about the biggest new mecha series in years?

Anime probably in 2018.

The fact that an edgy LN about Mechwarrior shitboxes vs Robotic BETA ripoff is the only hope for mecha is extremely depressing.
Poor man's MuvLuv really.

Muvluv mechas are too silly for anyone who's not a hardcore /m/fag to take it seriously. Not to mention isekai crap.

Guess not many read it yet.

Why? It excuted real robots in the aircraft with limbs direction instead of tanks with legs, and no super prototype bullshit.

It sounds much better than Gundam, for sure and normalfags eating that up.

I don't see any mecha in your image, so not interested.

Girl is a qt, you have my interest

Gundam survives on nostalgia of old fans who grew up watching it. Humanoid mechas are generally too stupid for mainstream audiences. Especially flying ones.

No new mech franchise was successful since Code Geass. And that wasn't successful because of mechas. Hell, girls in tanks series did better than any mecha in recent years.

It was a good idea to have spider mechs instead of Gundams in 86.

>I have never been right about anything in my entire life, but please listen to what I have to say.

...

Cute denial. Call me when non Gundam humanoid mech anime sells well. Oh wait, even Gundam TV series sell like shit for years. Only Gundam stuff that sells is plastic and nostalgia pandering OVAs.

>spider mechs with two swords in the front are realistic

At least humanoid mechs look nice

...

>denial

Show those mecha successes then instead of going "lol nope".

Sword variant is used by only one crazy guy.

I bet everyone else prefers like chainaxes or something.

I don't know what to think, is it being translated at consistent pace? Because i don't want to buy into new meme that gets forgotten next month.

Is it another story where some random japanese dude saves everything? Then no, it isn't saving mecha.

Guns actually.

I mean he's probably (not)Japanese.

No. A slav girl saves everything. The silver haired chick is the MC.

>triggered burger.

>only 2 volumes out
>already winning rewards and doing great in polls
>20k sales so soon and without anime

Whelp, this is gonna be big unless author fucks up soon.

nah, this is shit.

It might also fail when transferred to an anime medium. The fact that someone likes X manga, LN or VN doesn't mean he will buy the fuck out of anime. For many reasons.

You're really trying hard OP but this LN sucks aside from the art.

Knowing LN adaptations it's going to be some crappy CGI fest, but we'll see.

Dude, that's better than average Sup Forums thread. Stop being butthurt that nobody likes your Gundumbs.

Read the first two novels, it was mediocre. Expecting waifufags to eat it up because there’s literally no way /m/ will.

/m/ liking something always means it's shit.

>For a long time this country was attacked by it’s neighbor, the Empire, which created a series of unmanned military vehicles called the Legion. In response to the threat, the Republic successfully completes the development of similar technology and reflects the enemy’s attack, having managed to do without casualties. But this is… the official version. In fact, there were victims. Outside of the 85 districts of the Republic there was actually another one. “The non-existent 86th district.” It was there that battles continued day and night in which young men and women from the detachment known as Eighty-Six participated—they fought in drones…

>Shinn is the leader of a squadron of eighty-sixers. Lena is a “handler” who commands the detachment from the remote rear with the help of special communication technology.

>The farewell story of the severe and sad struggle of these two begins!

But it's no longer a drone if it's manned.

Is it manned if it's piloted by a pig?

Does that mean it's edgy just for the sake of being edgy?

It means the novel reads like it was written by a chuuni teenager except it's a chuuni adult.

Was Hitler edgy just for the sake of being edgy?

This summary is a bit misleading.

>if it's not above 12k it's selling like shit
Bravo, newfag.

>Valvrave was totally a success!

>biggest new mecha series
It doesn't even have a mecha tag. It isn't even about mecha.

>12k

What new mecha series in last 5 years broke 10k?

Mecha is not just humanoid robots. Take a look at /m/ catalog.

That's not the point. People like you are pushing it as it being the core when that is actually far from the truth. In fact, the first volume actually concentrates a hell lot more on character interactions than even the mecha in here.

The author even explictly says that the mecha are weak and useless.

It's still mecha. NGE or CG also concentrated on plot and character interactions.

Adverts in big mainstream newspapers. Unthinkable stuff for a LN. It may go the way of Biblia were they pretend it was never a LN.

At least the Mecha were useful there. Not like waste of money and resources.

Entire Legion force is mecha. Juggernauts are weaker in comparison but they are not useless. They are fighting the war for 9 years and held out for 2 more before they got fucked.

What's is actually about? Is it true that the girl is MC?

She's the MC of 3/4 of first volume. Guy is the MC of most of second volume. Vol3 comes out in a week.

Summary makes it sound like 86 is some small district fighting a tiny war when in reality it's the majority of the country and people die by the millions.

I want her on my piston

>Humanoid mechas are generally too stupid for mainstream audiences
You got this the other way around the mainstream audience is generally too stupid for humanoid mechas and you can thank bayformers for that.

user, I know it hurts but giant humanoid mechas are about as realistic as flying elephants.

Since when does the mainstream audience care about realism?

>realistic
Because silicon base rape aliens are realistic, right?

>Realism is important

You obviously don't get it. When something is so unrealistic anyone can see it's stupid it simply stops to work. Action scenes in SW prequels come to mind.

Well V3 is still before V1 epilogue most likely it's either Lena's story on how she got the name Bloody Regina or Shinn's story continued from V2.

Meh
Generic battle harem mecha plot

For once Republic>>>Empire
It happens too rarely.

It's the final assault on the Republic most likely.

Not so sure. Emps have lolis.

>When something is so unrealistic anyone can see it's stupid it simply stops to work.
I used to believe F-35 is so stupid everyone who support the idea is an idiot and not only don't comprehend what war plane actually is but also don't understand that cost of a plane directly translate to country's fighting power, but here we are years and bilions dollars later F-35 is actually ok and cost less that F-22. If F-35 made it I don't see how giant bipedal mech can't both are about as practical and expensive both are flawed in the very concept that only an idiot would approve, the lesson we learn from F-35 is that as long you don't let reality in a way and keep dreaming you can achieve your dreams even if it's actually a nightmare.

>I used to believe F-35 is so stupid

So you never had any idea about planes.

Giant bipedal mecha simply don't work because of basic physics like ground pressure.

>Thin aluminium alloy could not stand up to the barrage of a heavy machine gun. Though its mobility was far superior to a caterpillar tank, the cannon's firepower was pitifully little compared to the Löwe.
>The delicate four limbs could only withstand lighter weight, probably because the programming time for movement was too short (the more legs there were, the more complex the programming required), the pressure on the legs remained massive, and the legs would easily lose footing at the softer terrain of the swamps along the Eastern frontier. Combat robots in movies and anime were often depicted to run and jump with much speed, even in air, but those were an unattainable dream for this machine. One might even laugh in ridicule, for it was a moveable coffin.

/m/ meltdown will be funny once this airs.

>Still shilling for F-35 in 2017
Mate it's ok you can stop already the idea was plain retarded but it worked out in the end no need to keep forcing yourself to lie, F-35 is fine now.
>Giant bipedal mecha simply don't work because of basic physics like ground pressure.
Brainlet response, you would have better luck saying there is no battery/engine that could make it viable but physics while scaling terribly still allow for 5-11m mech without much problems.

>but physics while scaling terribly still allow for 5-11m mech without much problems

If it was slowly walking around. Running is completely out of the question. Especially in difficult terrain where mechas are supposed to be superior.

And if you really believed vatnik bullshit about F-35 being bad I have no words. Everyone with basic military knowledge knew it's going to be great.

...

I like how the specs don't actually tell you anything of importance. How fast are they even supposed to move?

As fast as the author wills it

Yeah, that's why we're getting lots of mecha reboots, because there's no public for it.

The biggest new mecha series in a decade was Aldnoah and that sold just 8k. Other than that only Gundam OVA's do good and they are nothing but pandering to nostalgic oldfags.

Meanwhile series about tanks sold over 40k and series about ships over 20k. Not even mentioning mecha musume.

The author has no idea about the specs actually. I-IV is the one that does. Author was even surprised that there were detailed stuff about the machines that I-IV illustrated for him.

Does it have any translations yet? That or just having only 2 volumes doesn't generate much interest

Novel talks quite a bit about drone capabilities and weapons actually. It's not the main focus but it's there. There was never top speed given though. They seem to be moving 80-90 km/h judging from the action. Maybe a bit faster. They can also change direction on the spot.

Enemy drones are generally superior so it's mostly ambushes and guerilla tactics.

First volume was completely translated few days ago. And it's quite famous in japan already.

They can change directions instantly at top speed?

Enemy drones can. The ones with humans inside not so much. But they are still really agile.

So what, do they not have inertia?

>the dead aren't in the field but they died there

They do but also have advanced dampers and very advanced programming for the legs and stuff.

Funny, how this thread is just one big space.

You keep going like this and all you'll do is create inflated expectations and turn yourself into a prime target for shitposters. Not to mention the already present "but muh realism" jackasses that have been plaguing the site for years.

Legion takes dead humans and uses their brains as processors. MC can hear voices of the dead so he hears those dead in drones lamenting their last regrets.

>Especially in difficult terrain where mechas are supposed to be superior.
If we get the lose end and actually develop bipedal mecha it will essentially shot down all these "plane can't knock to your house" memes and that's what's how they would be used "realistically".
>And if you really believed vatnik bullshit about F-35 being bad I have no words. Everyone with basic military knowledge knew it's going to be great.
You are completely missing the point or don't remember how F-35 came to be, the F-35 we know now is fine.
Also don't bring up physics if you don't really understand it because it make you look like armchair specialist of the worst kind,
>If it was slowly walking around. Running is completely out of the question.
really? I remember people trying to force this meme when Transformers came out, it's sad to see some actually believe garbage like this.

Transformers movies are stupid as fuck and pretty much everyone agree.

Not a harem.

>Wing
>Seed
>Seed-Destiny
>00
All of these were massive commercial successes and actually aliented old fans of Gundam, you stupid fuck.

And the most recent one of them aired 10 years ago. Macross used to sell 50k too. Last one barely did 10k.

>no super prototype bullshit.
Muv-Luv literally can't stop pulling super prototype bullshit.

In general the BD market is in decline from digital. 50% more shows sold over 10k in 2008 as 2016. Delta is also nowhere near as high profile of a production or critically well received as Frontier.

Macross is one of the biggest mecha franchises. And even it struggles to reach 10k sales. Seriously, show me a single new mecha series made within last 10 years that was a big commercial success.

Meanwhile GuP anime sold over 40k and movie over 200k. High School Fleet outsold every mecha anime since Code Geass.

This really stands out thanks to commander perspective instead of typical teen ace pilot perspective. I hope they go back to Lena as fast as possible. Her girlfriend is cute too.

You make it sound like there's some obvious pattern to selling 40,000 BDs, when in the last few years you have whatever the Christ fuck you even categorize Monogatari as, a magical girl show, fags on skates, a remake of an ancient gag manga, idols, a mature anime for mature viewers spinoff of a chuuni eroge, a giant robot ripoff with giant monsters instead, a generic fantasy video game adaption, a sports anime with tanks, a wish fulfillment video game isekai web novel, fag idols, etc.

>Seriously, show me a single new mecha series made within last 10 years that was a big commercial success.
Easy

Frame Arms Girl is making fucking stupid money for the production investment as well. It's important to note that vol.1 was actually the -worst- selling with vol.4 over 11k but merchandise is selling at production capacity on top of that.

It's not that the audience won't put up with the inclusion of robot anime aspectss.
If you want to compare 00 and Frontier to IBO and Delta, then the difference is the best selling robot shows from last decade were very balanced at appealing to both male and female audiences in the ~14-25 age group. Even with the four fucking faggots piloting the Gundams in 00 there was three super hot bridge characters, compelling and important female pilots, etc. Meanwhile IBO is a schizophrenic mix of 95% fujobait cast and grim ugly bullshit that doesn't really capture the heart of anyone.

Yet within all those successful shows not even one had giant humanoid robots despite many high budget attempts like Valvrave or Guilty Crown.

Mecha musume is a different genre at this point. And it's doing much better than traditional mecha. Even on /m/ Symphogear threads are the most active ones on the board. It's like if younger generation completely stopped caring about giant robots.

"traditional mecha" doesn't mean anything like what you think it does, I'd put Yamato in that category more than almost anything. Say giant robot anime if you mean giant robot anime or go fuck yourself.

Symphogear isn't mecha musume at all, it's mecha magical girl. Actual mecha musume is Strike Witches and Kancolle. FAG -is-, but is also robots in its own right at the same time. IS is not, it's not moefying anything.

If believability was a major factor here (as if IS are any kind of believable) then people would just be making shows with IS sized robots instead of Gundam size ones.

I don't think it's that weird. I think they are just capitalizing on how it's 2nd place in the latest Konolight. But has it actually been selling well? That's the question always anyway.

Ground pressure is a meme. I mean most of 2010s mech designs are absolutely fucked because they have tiny ass points for feet (like I don't know, THESE MOTHERFUCKERS ) but a lot of older ones have feet with several times the proportionate ground contact area of a human foot. Like if you go by the specs they give (and yes they're wildly optimistic but shit it's science fiction) a Scopedog's ground pressure should be pretty in line with cars, horses, etc.

This one is not even 4m tall. Something like this could actually work, but what's the point? What could it do than an APC couldn't?

Making mecha bipedal because humans are bipedal is stupid. Humans are weak and slow animals. 100kg human could easily get fucked in a fight with 30kg dog or panther. Being bipedal makes you slower and a taller target. Mechas don't need hands. Integrated weapons will always be more effective.

And seems to have spikes that stab into the ground while actual feet are rather wide.
