The government shouldn't be in the business of looking to the future. That should be the job of the private sector innovating and creating. The government should stay out of the way of that innovation and only maintain equal and fair trade practices.

Leftism is primarily a symptom of insecure power. They have no actual positions on anything. Any position they have can be reversed overnight when it becomes more expedient for gaining power.
As an example, consider that the Democrats used to agitate for a resolution banning birthright citizenship until relatively recently. Once they realized that the Hispanic vote would propel them to power, they reversed that position and advocated de facto open borders instead.
