Americans have always been particularly bad at soldiering. It has been the American media which has perpetuated the myth of the quality American soldier.
In reality the US soldier was by far the worst performer in ww1 (they dropped like flies in 1918) and were subpar in the true soldiering compared to Brits in Italy and only managed to outperform the Axis power in 1944 and 1945 with massive aerial superiority.
Since 1945 America has lost one war after the other, mostly due to the incompentence of the American military leadership and the poor occupation performance in hostile territory.
