How much does the average user let themselves be swayed by the general consensus, or stuff said about a certain anime or manga? Have you ever watched something that you thought was ok or liked, but then came to Sup Forums only to find most people shit on it, and that made you shift your personal view of it? Or do you manage to not let that sway you, and even perhaps go against what the majority say about it when negative?
The opposite applies too, in regards to it being generally praised.

Sup Forums has admitted multiple times that they hate things they haven't seen because of fans/it's popular

I like to discuss anime after I’ve finished them and that can lead to learning things I may have not grasped myself. Usually my opinion or overall enjoyment won’t change much, but I may find myself gaining a new appreciation for what was there.
It’s interesting because as much as people argue on here, changing someone’s actual opinion on something is really difficult, especially if they’re invested enough to talk about it here.

I have never seen even a minute of Naruto but I hate it with a passion

Why the fuck should I care about what other people think about something I've already made up my mind about? It's not like I can vicariously watch it through them, can I?
I mean, it's nice when something you like and think is good is well received; it's fun to share things and have other people enjoy them, and you want quality work to get recognition (and maybe inspire future works of the same caliber), but I'm not going to change how I view something because it's popular/unpopular.
That said, I suppose I could see other people pointing out things that you missed or misunderstood causing you to see something in a better (or worse light), or inspiring you to give something a second chance when you might never have looked back. I can't think of any examples of that personally, though and - even if you do go back - the opinion you ultimately form will be your own.

i base all of my anime watching on MAL scores

I'm not sure about the average user, I don't like grouping people together like that. I'm kind of an outlier. Personally, I have mad anxiety about other people's thoughts so I read up on an anime/browse a few threads on it before watching. I have a bad habit of reading (yous) before I finish reading an OP post and read youtube comments before the video. I need to take a break. Interesting topic, I'm genuinely a little annoyed at that girl's face, though.

That's called being a sheep and basing a work on it's fanbase.

You must really be a retard to let Sup Forums shift your view about something since this board is 90% satire/irony and Sup Forums is self conscious about it. That's why everyone shit on everything.
Austin Williams
Sup Forums here, I don't even watch anime, I just call shit everything discussed in this board.

Considering the amount of "should I watch [insert show]?" posts/threads, recommendation threads, and request threads, I'd say that a lot of anons are weak-minded as fuck. That in itself is pretty hilarious, since most arguments here are either shitposts or totally devoid of any compelling points.
Jason Evans
Sup Forums kept saying Tokyo Ghoul was trash so I gave it a watch, figuring I'd probably enjoy it. But then it turned out you fuckers tricked me and it actually was trash.
Carson Sullivan
>"should I watch [insert show]?" posts/threads That's just people trying to gauge whether something is worth watching without investing any viewing time into it; may be stupid, but they aren't actually asking Sup Forums to form their opinions for them.
Juan Ross
heheheh. I enjoyed this post.

I'm annoyed if people don't share my opinions and I used to argue to make realize their mistakes, then I realized it was pointless and just call them retards now. Madoka, Hyouka, KnK, Your Name, Kemono Friends are all shit, by the way.
Bentley Martin
I can be swayed if people can reasonably explain why they think something's good or bad. My feelings on Dragon Ball became more positive when people pointed out Toriyama's paneling.
Alexander Smith
Completely and utterly. I have zero taste in anime and even if I know I would/wouldn't like a show, I still say that it's pretty good/dog shit, whatever's the case. It's not because I can't formulate an opinion, or that I'm scared of admitting it, its just I can only seem to make my own opinion with a heavy bias to public opinion that I also happen to agree with fairly passionately. This is coming from someone who almost exclusively watches cute moeblob / ecchi rom coms Take it as you will.
Austin Wilson
same with madoka, shit was fucking garbage fuck you Sup Forums
Connor Gutierrez
I get upset when something I enjoy is frequently criticized in discussion forums. It's fine if people tell me I have shit taste, but when something I read long ago gets criticized, I get worried if I struggle to remember why I liked the series in the first place. It doesn't really matter in the end, since I inevitably hold onto my personal feelings even tighter while accepting our different perspectives.
Likewise, with popular series that i haven't gotten into, I might try out the first few episodes or chapters, and if I get bored or don't have the time, I'll just leave it on my backlog and assume it'll get good if I spend the time to get invested. Whenever I get to that point.
Landon Young
pretty sure those are bannable on Sup Forums. Just report and hide, please.

If I already dislike something and it has retarded fans pretending it's great, I'll remind them why it's objectively shit.

Whenever I finish watching something, I look forward to seeing Sup Forums talk about it to see how much our views tend to match (Which isn't often because my taste is only second in shittiness to Japans) and when I do see someone with a different opinion, I think back to when I watched that show to see if I can figure out why that person would think like that or if they're just full of shit. For example, I thought Ange Vierge was poorly written and really fucking boring, but apparently there's a sizeable group of pleople who want a second season.
Leo Perry
But they are asking for a recommendation, which is against the rules.
Joseph Clark
Sup Forums has too many hugboxes so you can only have too high an expectation if you were to go by consensus. As a result, it's often hit or miss (usually miss) if I were to believe all the threads on here. It's a really pointless exercise because while it has no bearing on my own views at all, it may just affect the way I communicate. Sometimes I feel like you must walk on eggshells just to talk about a show, it's stupid.
>but they aren't actually asking Sup Forums to form their opinions for them. The underlying question of "should I watch it" is really "will I like it". So of course, the user is asking whether his interest in watching a show for whatever reason is justified/supported by popularity and the kind of popularity he was expecting. Occasional threads come up where people want to watch a particular show because they want something "bad" instead of the assumed "good epic I like it" shows.
In any case, it's dumb to judge whether something is "worth your time" based on comments from other anons who don't know shit about you. It's even dumber to think that anons share some kind of collective taste or that listing shows you liked means anons can convince you into watching a show because they might have liked the listed shows for different reasons.
Sup Forums might not form their opinions for the OP but the OP is certainly letting themselves be influenced by literal mongs for better or worse (usually worse).
