The US has a high gun crime rate because of demographics. If you subtract the aforementioned high-gun-violence ethnic groups, the US would have a gun crime rate typical of most European countries.

And most gun related deaths are not school shootings, or even mass shootings. The fact that an insanely tiny percentage of gun related deaths get the majority of media coverage should tell you something about the media. Did you know that the US is ranked 11th in per capita deaths by mass shootings? France is 3rd. Its not even a serious issue when you look at the numbers. More people die each year from accidental drowning(in incidents not involving boats, if you throw boating accidents in its waaaaay more) than from gun related homicides, and the vast majority of drowning deaths are children. Do you see people marching to ban recreational swimming?
