I think it depends on how a person defines "Good Works". There are a couple of churches in my area doing food drives/community food banks, but I dont know anything else about them.
My church is helping me get my life in order (Turbo fedora of ~13 years before finding Jesus) on a smaller scale, and giving all of us a solid experience of worship and fellowship.

Just as a note, many say the command to "come out of her" is on a non-physical level, to leave behind all ties with the beast spiritually and mentally and turn to God.
I think it would be best to live in the sticks too - but if one is stuck in the city and unable to "come out of her" as such, dont fear. You might have physical, earthly problems but only fear that which can cause the soul to perish.
