I don't think those older DVRs had very much in the way of storage. Odds are that he'd have had to make a very serious effort to keep a DVR around with shark week from a previous year still saved for playback like that. Again, not impossible but DEFINITELY not rational or reasonable. OP has definitely caught onto something sketchy.
I had a TIVO from 2002 to 2008, it held 40 hours of programming. My grandma had one that held 80 hours in 2008. I'm sure Trump could afford a better one, but the entirety of Shark Week would fill it up fast.

Is it possible that previous season's episodes were available under the video on-demand option? This is accessed via the dvr box - not unlikely a porn star wouldn't understand the difference since they are viewed on the same device.
Sometimes before a new season of a popular show would debut comcast/xfinity would make available older episodes for viewers to 'catch up'
I dunno if this was an option back in 2006 or not. we also don't know what kind of dvr/cable box was being used at the time in question.
