First it seemed more like an apprenticeship. The whole witch theme is styled like it. The the Author had something about birth and it seemed that Chinatsu could never reach the same level.
There was also that old lady that learned a spell or two. So common small magic spells without being a witch are a thing.
Chinatsu also got that mana supply given to her.
I'd hoped they'd rope Nao into it, because it would offer a different perspective than Chinatsu, simply by being older.

It would be fine for a monthly comic but feels insufficient when another chapter won't come until February. I want more!
It also feels like the author is setting up future storylines by adding Summer into the mix. Both the Makoto / Summer relationship (where Makoto is gets to play the commonsense tsukkomi role for once) and the Nao / Summer relationship show promise.
