The character buildup feels better done in comparison to other current choices. Its more appealing to western audience. I'd enjoy it even more without the throwaway characters like Mineta and Shoji. Koda is slightly throwaway because his design is stupid but his power and personality have meaning, although since he doesn't get enough "screen time" he might as well not exist.

This is coming from someone who could barely stand Naruto up to the tournament and can't stand One Piece, One Punch Man, or JoJo at all.

The naruto anime atleast serves it's purpose having good fight scenes AKA only reason you should be watching battle shounenshit anyways.

The best animated scene in Boku No Hero was used in one of the most boring fights

Obviously quirks aren't perfect, but there's at least creativity in their execution and they usually follow established rules, which makes the fights more fun (not many random ass pulls where someone magically gains new powers or new abilities), characters are likeable, All-Might is my boy and appeals to all my capreshit sensibilities, and so on. Plus it's just feel good - it's nice watching people doing heroic shit.

When it comes to one series standing out among a host of very similar things, it really only takes a slight boost in quality or appeal for it to snowball into popularity. It doesn't have to be exponentially better than any of its kind to justify an exponentially larger fanbase. Fanbases form out of social interests as much as quality interests, and so long as a series is good enough, people will check it out just to be involved in a series with an active community, which is more appealing than being involved in a decent series that has no fan activity to engage with. Some people might do both, but for a lot of people one is enough, and that one became My Hero Academia.

It's sort of like a group of friends dedicating themselves to one console over all the others to ensure they'll be able to play together. All 10 friends buying PS4s doesn't mean PS4 is 10 times better than XBox, just that these 10 people want to be together on something and PS4 had some aspect of appeal that inched it just above its competition.

Because it is what naruto should've been before it went to shit - a shounen fighting series that's all about buildups and strong emotional moments, with an underdog protagonists who becomes the very best. Koda literally took every mistake Kishimoto's made with Naruto and corrected it. This is from a shounen perspective, since as a general anime it's mediocre at best.

Naruto anime was badly paced and stretched the fuck out compared to BNHA which already had a tournament arc in it's 2nd cour alone. Why you pretending you need dozens and dozens of episode to show a good fight that will be remembered? Pacing and content is the only thing that matters.

All in all, this is a very meddling shonen riding on the coattails of Capeshit and Naruto popularity with normalfags.
