To add on to that: stuff like helping Todoroki and Iida with their issues. There's next to no actual incentive there for him - it's him conscientiously deciding to be a good guy to his own detriment. Him trying to save All Might in the USJ count too.

Deku is constantly making choices that put him in danger to help others, and it's affected the characters around him and the story plenty.

He has lost most of his big fights or gotten saved, he got saved at USJ, lost early in the tournament, got saved fighting Stain, got saved fighting All Might, lost to bakugo, got saved fighting overhaul. He has one unquestionable win and that's against Muscular.
