I don't understand the complete lack of interest in this show
Children of the Whales
Because it's shit. I made it through about five episodes.
The art is nice but it isn't animated well either.
It started out so good. Weak animation is hardly noteworthy these days. Otherwise the art itself has looked above average
I'd like better subtitles, but I do love this show.
I hate having to wait for subs each week. Why didn't Horriblesubs sub this show?
>Horriblesubs
>sub
Because CR didn't.
Why didn't they steal Netflix subs though?
>Pink-chan
>The nosedive the story took after the intro
>Exposition
>Tell donĀ“t show
Bad animation and writing.
Not really, I watched only one episode and infodumping, ill-fitting comedy and generic characters were already there.
>Children of the Whales
I'm too much of a bitch to watch the psychological horror show of kids brought up in a feminist household
I admit it has somewhat good production values and is pretty to look at. And that's where it ends. The action scenes are bad, when there's a homicide going on the characters stop on their tracks to exchange awfully dragging dialogue or comedy that doesn't fit in. There's no feeling of threat even when there should be. I guess it's because this is based on manga and they just adapted the story straight from it without realizing that some things don't work in animation.
Also the characters are boring and generic, the pink haired dude actually makes me cringe because I've seen this guy so many times and this type of character shouldn't be used outside comedy in year 2017.
>Netflix
>Weekly releases
I like it. Only issue for me is that if Ounis power had awakened earlier a lot of people would still have been alive.
That's the point.
This had better be 2 cour, pacing is all fucked up.
I can definitely see the netflix influence, this show works a lot better if you marathon it, than if you watch it weekly.
Why does Netflix even bother? I like them better as a company than CR, but their best subs don't come close to CR's best (though the worst Netflix subs are much better than CR's worst), and CR at least releases same day.
But we liked battleship kojira on the journey to their home world.
What I would do if I was Netflix is release the show in sets, so if a bunch of episodes all happen consecutively, they get released all together, then when they hit a timeskip they wait a week. Could be a unique viewing experience. God knows this show needs something unique.
You're right. But it was a bit predictable that when they could only hope for a miracle someone would awaken a hidden power.
>Pink-chan
Yea this is basically where the show died for me
>le genki psychopath sadist
I'm sick of this trope. Why'd they have to go and shit all over the plot? He's supposed to be completely without emotion.
>Also the characters are boring and generic
Even before the writing collapsed this was a weak point of the show. No strong characters. The most interesting character was probably Sami-chan, and then Ouni, who is even then pretty tropey.
A lot if them show emotions.
>infodumping
So it's not a masterpiece, but it still has a unique and interesting plot and setting that requires some explanation in the first place. That alone puts it above many anime
>comedy that doesn't fit in
Nee-san trope-sama was awfully glaring. Very poorly done, there.
>feminist
Projecting. Wet-noodle MC-kun isn't the result of western feminism social engineering garbage. That's just Japan right now
That would be nice, no point compromising a story just to fit it into 12x20 segments.
>He's supposed to be completely without emotion.
Actually he's supposed to be over-emotional due to the process backfiring on him or something.
Pros
>unique and interesting setting / lore
>solid story
>good mystery
>good cliffhangers
>quality art
Cons
>dull cast and lead
>trope characters
>tonally inconsistent scenes
>mediocre animation
>too much narration
>Because it's shit
Doesn't mean anything to Sup Forums
Because it has a nice setting but the story itself is fucking trash, it has all the worst shounen tropes in it.
Netflix original? I'm watching it and genuinely enjoying my time, despite some flaws. It's not like all the other anime currently airing get threads 24/7 and hitting bump limit constantly.
>too much narration
That's kind of the point of the story, though. The whole story is being told from MC's records/diary. It's supposed to be full of his narration, explanations and thoughts especially since it's a diary he writes for future generations so they would have more information than people on Mud Whale had.
It's like complaining that there are conflicts in Star Wars; that's the basic premise.
>that requires some explanation in the first place
It really doesn't. Their infodumps haven't really explained anything that you couldn't gleam from just watching and listening to the moment to moment interactions. And considering how much of the runtime they have consumed, that's pretty bad.
"Show, don't tell" and all that. And if you're going to tell, don't make it redundant and boring and don't insult me by treating me like a child.
Boring as hell. Instead of doing something there always has to be a moment of the MC crying and then maybe taking action. Thymia feels so tame and isn't a very exciting power for the characters to have as it just augments their sticks and bows.
The god damn genocide is probably the most pathetic genocide scene I've seen in just about anything where the emotionless murderers take time to just kinda casually sit there and not kill people because reasons. They aren't talented or even slightly militarily trained as they just sort of topple over to a bunch of island bumpkins.
Really just kinda makes me appreciate Shinsekai Yori more.
Insta dropped once they invaded the ship. If there is one thing anime struggles to make something good is war. That was supposed to be a heartbreaking episode, but instead I was just rolling my eyes.
Shoujo makes everything worse. I'm watching it for the pretty art, bit I can hardly bear all the emo.
It says a lot that the same concept was infinitely better when it was a battle academy harem.
You can have his character be an "archivist" or whatnot without relying on it so heavily to convey and explain the setting. At least at first I felt this took away from immersion and squelched potential character building
decently interesting premise and setting (a bit silly though), but abysmal writing and characters.
This is basically the problem. Very strong stage for very weak actors. Just doesn't cut it
>on episode 5
>started out nicely but is showing all the signs of devolving into a stinking piece of crap
It's so often so hard to drop an anime
Well judging from this show's threads, it seems to have only attracted the small minority of anons with critical thinking skills, so that doesn't bode well for it; or for us for that matter. Maybe I should just turn off my brain and enjoy Lykos' Lykoses.
You don't really need great critical thinking skills to notice that, in the end, it's a generic shounen in a better-than-usual setting.
Well, you need greater than average for Sup Forums thinking skills.
i don't have problems with this anime,It's great, plus i like that main character is not the strongest one.
It's watchable unlike most anime, but it doesn't make me look forward to the next episode.
I can't be the only one getting home world vibes from it?
Initially, it was because it was a low-profile title that didn't get picked up for simulcasting because of Netflix. Now, it's simply because the show is just really, really bad.
The main reason I stuck around was how the show played on me emotionally. I'm a bit of a crier and man some of the episodes, specifically the one where they were preparing to be attacked and they can't help themselves from finding comfort in their old traditions...I had tears in my eyes for the majority of the episode. I love shows that make me feel that raw emotion.
That being said. Some of the animation is really janky, the MC is the least interesting character in the show, the pink haired fucker is the worst kind of villain and Ginshu Onee-Sama does not get enough screen time. Honestly one of my favorite shows that came out this year though.
>It's great
These are a special kind of bad. Instead of either dropping them immediately or actually just watching them, I end up spending all my time in threads on Sup Forums conflicted about dropping it
>It's watchable unlike most anime
lol It's funny how often I find myself saying stuff like this
>Ginshu Onee-Sama does not get enough screen time
So far she has been a stinker of a character. Completely out of sync with the rest of the tone and story; just another harem trope zombie stuffed in for the shit of it.
Yes, for me.
But you are objectively incorrect even in your own mind
Yes, and?
Now you're just being difficult for the sake of it
It was clumsily done but that is forgivable. Edgelord chuuni sadist-kun was the biggest red flag. At some point you just know the series is never going to recover itself
I felt bad when gaybro died, he just wanted to be useful.
>a bit silly though
Why?
Interesting because user dropped it exactly there
Too much retarded shonen cliches in the action scenes are off putting.
Literally Naruto rip off in this part (though I know Naruto was not the progenitor off 'you kill my dear friend I'm going to go unleash my hidden power that overwhelms everyone even though it's meant to be impossible'.
Yes, and?
Is this different from Children of the Waves?
Not really
It's not interesting at all really
literally how fucking new are you people jesus christ
Why did you quote
>netflix
>weekly
Why not? They are both retarded.
Oh yeah, that makes sense. Do you think HS will rip Netflix once it's all released?
it will be the same case as it always is with netflix. wait for the bds
Is there any whale in the anime? Also, does any whale is a galactic whale?
>netflix
Is this the end of anime?
Yes and no
it looks nice but yeah it's got some elfen lied writing going on. killing off dozens of people every episode, the actual scenes are badly paced with the clowns locked in place for 10 minutes while everybody has to have a nice chat before being killed, pink-haired diclonius alien spreading her invisible hands everywhere while she does a dansu just like ha-roo-hee in the middle of the acts of genocide, evil edgefag kid being raped right in the butt by even more eviler jesters. Still, delicious brown girl, somebody wrote Lykos for Grandpa Tomino.
> it's a generic shounen in a better-than-usual setting
Not even sure if bait or if the user is this retarded.
Why so hostile? Seems pretty spot on to me
I like the sombre and cathartic atmosphere and Ouni should've been the real main character. Chakuro is just far too boring and would've worked as a side character or something. Has anyone bought the first volume of the English localization yet? I've got one coming in the post.
>Ouni should've been the real main character. Chakuro is just far too boring
Edgelord-sama isn't anything to shake a stick at, but yea he's just a more dynamic and interesting character than infallible beta-kun
He was also the only one willing to stand up and actually defend the mud whale while the current chieftain just did nothing but cower. Fuck it, Ouni should be emperor.
...
Best girl, I want her to hug me and never let go. I still wish a cake character, basically Esdeath done right was introduced somewhere down the line in this.
>best girl
This anime is your fault
user, I know that being retarded is kinda the theme of this thread, but stop being so retarded. Holy shit.
>Netflix original?
It's about as "Netflix original" as all the other shows are CR, Amazon and Asenshi-original.
>durr your a retard!
>post is 9 hours old
>Still, delicious brown girl, somebody wrote Lykos for Grandpa Tomino.
This, I could watch a hundred episodes of this shit as long as there are delicious brown girls.
It's not a shounen though.
But yeah, for the interesting setting, the characters are sadly very generic. Manga art is nice though so that and the story keeps me reading.
I like to watch it but I somehow didn't get attached to the characters at all, which is kinda sad.
