Oh, so the translations didn't stop because of lazy or lack of interest?

Quick summary past ch.48 from reddit.
Right, just so that we're on the same page, Chapter 48 concluded on the revelation of Ruu's secret identity.
The remaining girls are captured and questioned by Sino, but all three insist that they didn't kill Kougami/Ren, and Sino seems convinced after Miki points out to her that Rii has completely lost her marbles. Meanwhile, as the MFC interrogates the other University Group, Ayaka determines that Takahito is likely infected, and he runs from the room. Sino and Ayaka go after him and, with the MFC in disarray, all the girls escape and try to locate each other. Takahito finally gives up on life and opens the gates to allow the zombies into the University.
In the process, the Gurashis get separated. Rii barely escapes the zombies by hiding, then jumping out a window where she is found and tended to by Sino. Miki is briefly chased by a floundering Takahito, but Takahito is ultimately stabbed by Sino, who claims that she isn't ready to give up on life yet, because she's pregnant with Kougami's kid.
Meanwhile, an infected and addled Kurumi reenters the University and is sighted by a panicked Yuki, who puts her life on the line to snap Kurumi out of her condition. Yuki admonishes Kurumi for not telling the others that the cure from the High School is failing, and promises to defend Kurumi in the future no matter what.
The next morning, Ayaka meets up with Takahito, chalks up his condition to weakness, then pushes him off a storage container and burns him alive. She then takes a car and escapes the university, but the car breaks down, and her situation is left to the reader's imagination. In the meantime, Rii hands "Ruu" over to Sino, claiming that she should take care of "her" and that she's going to join the other girls on the trip to Randal Corporation. Before they go, however, Rise introduces everyone to Aosoi, the mysterious scientist woman that Miki talked to on the intercom, who offers her own thoughts on the infection. Apparently, the infection is airborne, and it's only a matter of time before it kills everyone remaining in Japan.
It is then that Aosoi notices Kurumi, and breaks the news to everyone else that Kurumi is infected. Once Miki points out the partial success of the cure, Aosoi becomes very interested, and insists on joining the Gurashis on the Randal trip in hopes of assisting in the creation of a vaccine or cure. The Gurashis finish packing the camper, say their goodbyes, and promise to return once they have a cure. Touko demonstrates that Kurumi's infection doesn't scare them, and that they're all still friends, while Sino promises to continue taking care of Ruu.
As the girls travel to Randall Corp HQ, Kurumi seems to be getting weaker, and Miki is haunted by Takahito's nihilism, resulting in her secretly stealing a steak knife for personal use. Rii decides that she'll do more to protect the others, and Yuki assures Miki that there's a good future ahead to look forward to, and starts Miki writing a journal.
Unbeknownst to everyone, a mysterious helicopter bearing the same model and paint job as the one that crashed at the high school flies out over Tokyo bay, where it hovers over a zombie-filled aircraft carrier...

Why would you ask? She is literally a living dead now. Just a slightly more living than dead.
Why the hiatus though? Did the author write himself into a corner?
Afaik authors went on vacation. Along the way, they participated in creation of that Kirara game. However, after the announcement of the live action film it seems to me that it was also part of the reason.
I think this month kirara forward said this manga is coming back next month.
Let me see if I can find the announcement.
She’s very close to a not-Wesker.
If anything, she's turning into something else.
Into a best girl? M-masaka.
