Shinji is far and away the absolute best pilot in eva, the girls are crap, Rei is fine, she knows that Shinji is the real ace and she is just a sidekick, but Asuka she's a real bitch that thinks she's hot shit when she is just shit.

I just started rewatching NGE and this is absolutely true, I have no idea where the get in the robot meme came from.
Shinji was completely in the right about not just jumping in the EVA on episode 1, you’d have to be a pretty spineless, stupid, faggot to just suck it up and do what your shitty dad said just because.
An organization such as NERV couldn’t be retarded to the point of not having any back up pilots, and they did.
Shinji again does the right thing when he sees Rei’s condition, and promptly makes himself available to pilot, given there is no alternative.

Imo Asuka is better but she was held back by her mom. She had military training and she really kicks ass once she has the bottom-of-lake epiphany. That's just my opinion though.
