Mushrooms don't seem to be omnipresent, god-like creatures, they grow and learn like any other lifeform. They aren't also perfect as they somehow missed the kettenkrad and the lantern, so there is a chance they just skipped them, of course that just wishful thinking.

I think of it like this. The purpose of mushrooms in nature is to get rid of waste and corpses and shit.
