>Specialization

>main way of acquiring is through some very specific magic relic
>can kill you if you don't have the physical and mental strength to handle it
>powers have little to do with the users' personality, there is nothing to inform the user of what his power is and some powers can even be lethal for the user
>all Stand users technically have levitation-lite and telepathy-lite despite it hardly ever being mentioned
>Stand powers work just because without any explanation or internal logic to their internal mechanics
Nope.

O

MY

>all Stand users technically have levitation-lite and telepathy-lite despite it hardly ever being mentioned
Can't remember any time this has happened in the last few parts. I feel like that's mostly anime-time bullshit.

...

I am talking about Stand-users levitating by having their own Stands hold them in the air. And by pseudo-telepathy, I am talking about Stands talking with other Stands. It has been shown as possible, but it is often ignored by Stand users.

Oh and characters moving their Stands through or into solid objects to see and hear things is also heavily underused. We also know Stands can change their sizes, but nobody ever uses to hide their Stand or to evade attacks, even if it would be very useful.

Specialization always seemed like they put it in there in case they think of a power to give a character later on that doesn't fit into the other 5 categories

At the end of Part 3 even the users were flying around so yeah, it's pretty bullshit.

Agreed that Nen is the best power system but I don't believe the six categories is a major reason for that.

Nen is fucking retarded, there are a huge amount of things that are inconsistent with how the system is laid out. Not only that but "specialization" is such a vague and general category that having the other five means jack shit.

For all the criticisms that Naruto gets, the jutsu system makes complete sense in its entirety.

The tiger who had the surfing power, I would fuck him

Saying something doesn't make it true. Specialization as a category does not make the others meaningless and I doubt you could provide examples of your supposed "huge" list of inconsistencies.

Killua's knowledge of nen is a huge one

How?

If you want to make a power system that makes sense, stick to video games. I've seen plenty of good fantasy powers wasted because the author cared more about consistency and detailing every minor movement to avoid hypocrisy rather than just focusing on the actual story. Of course there are people who can do both well, but its pretty rare in anime.

Killua being able to change his hands despite not knowing Nen is weird, but not really inconsistent. We know there are people who can use Nen to some extent instinctively, such as Neon Nostrade, Komugi or the artists who made the art pieces that Killua collected during the Yorkshin arc. And we know that there are innate abilities that some creatures can use natively that don't have any explanation as of yet.

Because he didn't even know it existed

He knew his family had weird powers, he just didn't know what they were,

Moreover, even if that explanation is unsatisfying, I don't see how it hurts the system itself. At most, it is proof that Togashi failed to plan ahead in that narrative aspect.

*removes your specialisation*

Why are conjurers so fucking shit?

Every other category has top tier users except conjurers and shit like Netero's giant buddha can just be created with emission instead of conjuration which makes it useless.

Conjuration is a cool idea but generally is pretty lacking in execution or ideas in media. I actually think HXH has some of the best conjuration implementations that I can think of off the top of my head which is kind of sad.

>Knov creates pocket dimensions that let him teleport
>Cheetuh creates a pocket dimension that you can't leave no matter how powerful you are unless you meet a specific condition
>Kurapika creates chains around your heart that kill you if you break a specific condition
>Genthru creates bombs by touching you that can't perceive at all until he wants to, can be materialized months later and can't be removed
>Kortopi can create copies of entire buildings
If you think creating giant robots is the best you can do with Conjuration you are the problem.

AC/DC .

meanwhile any enchancer like Uvogin just walks up and kills them in a hit. conjurers are trash

Except that he died to Kurapika's Conjured chains

Judgement chain is a Conjuration, Emission and Manipulation ability. Kurapika is bullshit and can use all categories at 100% efficiency, if he was just a regular conjurer he would be shit.

He lost because Kurapika turned out to be a Specialist which, as we all know, means that you can do everything instead of just being good at one thing.

Pretty much every ability is a combination, fuckwit. If it's primarily Conj it counts as 'conj'.

Chain Jail is what got Uvogin and it is Conjuration only. Judgment Chain only forced him to commit sudoku and desu, you could probably pull something just as lethal with Conjuration+Transmutation.

Its literally chakra. Copying faggots

E I D O S

Stands are only cool because Araki is creative with the powers, the energy system itself is pretty meh

Nen system is definitely the most balanced system in shonen. Togashi better not add any more additional rules to it.

I don't see how it is any different from stands. If you want an enemy to have a certain ability, you just say he uses that type of nen. If you want crazier abilities, you just meme out some pointless contract BS. All the system does is create a false sense of depth as far as functionality goes.

>false sense of depth
>false
Try recreating Crimson Queen in the Nen system and you'll see how much more streamlined and balanced it becomes

>HxH uses neutered version of 2nd edition d&d magic specialization
lol

Why is necromancy its own thing?

This is basically every battle shounen. The abilities can be anything, the system just exists to provide some autistic fluff about how to categorize them.

> Try recreating Crimson Queen in the Nen system
It's a Specialist ability that works exactly like it does in Stand form.

You don't remeber stuff like when Joseph tells Kakyoyn to shrink his stand so it can enter someones body?

I said the last few parts. And no, I haven't read part 3 for a while. I know the 90s OVA had what seemed like flying in it but even if that was in the manga to some extent it was a lot worse in the OVA. Parts 7 and 8 especially have been pretty good at avoiding that as far as I remember.

this looks gay

The thing is that we see Stands able to hold people all the time. Including their own users. And many Stands move around seemingly through levitation.

If you put 1+1 together, there is no reason why characters can't just ride their Stands to climb or float to high places, or to reduce fall speed when jumping from somewhere

Conjurations is the asspull category.

This has been the staple of D&D for years, bud.

And note that this has happened. For example, when Shigechi chases Josuke and Okuyasu.

Naruto
I'm on my way
Naruto
I'll be okay

That unironically looks cool

how does this work

>I've seen plenty of good fantasy powers wasted because the author cared more about consistency and detailing every minor movement to avoid hypocrisy rather than just focusing on the actual story.

examples? genuinely interested

Wind and Earth together should be Sand release.

You wouldn't even be able to create an ability like King crimson without having limitations up the ass that would make basically unusable or a vow like Emperor time that would literally kill you if you used it. Stealing someone's ability and being able to use it requires you to pass 5 difficult requirements, being able to "skip" 10 seconds of time would probably be impossible.

>lightning beats earth
Fuck you, Deidara had that fight

thius, as much as i hat naruto this chakra system is clearly superior than all non obscure shonen

/thread

How the fuck do wind and lightning make magnets? I get electricity, but wind?

I don't think it was stated that lightning and wind are the components of magnet release. It's just a theory at this point

specialization exists to justify characters having bullshit asspull powers

why was wood so rare

It's closer to the spheres of Mage the Ascension with Specialist being the outlier school of magic.

honestly, this would've been really fucking cool in the right hands

OH MY SNAKE SUMMON

If Kurapika didn't have plot powers he would have lost

At least they did work it in by saying manipulators and conjurors have a significantly higher chance of getting a specialist power, and that its virtually 0 for everyone else

power system reliant on user's emotional and mental state of mind, with the intensity of the emotion felt being a deciding factor in its power
for example, a psychologically damaged user who's angry may create hallucinations within enemies' minds, tho they themselves may be unable to distinguish it from reality itself

Still angry about it

Best to crawl before you walk. We don't even know how magnets work yet.

Can we agree that an energy/power system is shit if the author had to change/modify it midway of the manga?

Hamon --> Stands
Devil Fruits --> Haki

Etc

Hamon is indeed shit. DFs and haki complement each other, though the gear shit is annoying.

>You wouldn't even be able to create an ability like King crimson without having limitations up the ass that would make basically unusable or a vow like Emperor time that would literally kill you if you used it.
Except there's no actual guidelines for how that stuff works. If Togashi wanted to make any power he wanted without any restrictions, he could, and it wouldn't break any rules of the system.

if you're gonna have a technology based energy system, make lots of different weapons and gadgets

instead of one thingamajig that does lots of cool stuff, why not base it on psychic?

Ki because complex rules are boring and it's best to keep it simple.

i really like this, but it's elaborated upon way too late and in general naruto has the problem of giving all the characters way too many abilities.

hxh and jojo are cooler because it gives it's characters weaker, more versatile signature moves so not too many of them grow to be godlike bags of attacks that can blow up buildings with a glance.

Take nen and remove all the dumb gamelike rules and you have something better. It makes no sense that it's supposed to be an inherent energy in humans and yet it follows these arbitrary rules like "if you're a conjurer then you're bad at emission" or whatever.

The only people who like it are /tg/ people who like complex systems just for the sake of complex systems. It's not actually good.

Feels a little overcomplicated.

What's the difference between fire, scorch and blaze?

>sucking off nip magic systems
Call me when one of them follows Sanderson's laws.

Ki isn't really good either because it's so important. Power levels shouldn't dictate a fight so much.

Earth + wind = Sand (Shukkaku)

Google tells me that scorch is like heat and blaze is just stronger fire and has nothing to do with lightning so that image is probably wrong.

That implies energy systems are good in the first place.

This really. But that should only incorporate for martial artists.
No is simply a life force and its use is by gain much more than you need for being alive.

it's about how you think and what kind of person you are. emitters are characterized by impatience and inattention to details, hence why they can most efficiently create simple, straightforward powers that work at a distance. conjurers are stern and need to take their time to go over everything, so they make concrete objects or effects with a clear function. they're also related somewhat to specialists in the way that their objects or abilities often make pretty unique effects.

plus nen gives this extra characterization by linking archetypes with abilities, so with these things in mind it's pure autistic fun. i understand if you like something super simple (dragon ball) or too defined (naruto) so you can save your thinking for other aspects of the show

It makes sense to an extent, Star Platinum and The World are stands that one could imagine being used for levitation.

Fucking Heaven's Door and Boyz II Men are not, however, yet Rohan and RPS Kid flew into the sky.

>Musion

Look at those

>Make a better energy system

Haki.
I like Haki. I like Haki because for the most part it's been the most 'fair', unbiased, readily available and (I think at least) most thematically appropriate and conducive force towards a shonen jump style narrative. There's no destiny, no genetic imperative (*typically), you just need to want it bad enough and train hard enough and you'll eventually break through your soft cap and enter into the world of activated almond strength. That's it. It's that easy.

Then again, I fucking hate awakened Devil Fruit users, so One Piece isn't entirely 'ideal'. I liked it better when Devil Fruit powers were only as strong as how creative you got within their limitations, now you can 'awaken' them and do all sorts of stupid bullshit and it isn't cool anymore.

*Conquerors Haki 'seems' to be narrative driven, but it's so far it's been less like plot armor and just more like that paper mario badge wot automatically defeats shitty enemies for you. It can't win REAL fights for you, but you shout at some flaccid boy and he won't waste your time.

Isn't that stupid Insane Clown Posse meme dead already?

I mean, it's true you can't fully understand how magnets work without nosediving into the Quantum realm, but anyone who's done AP Physics 2 in college can tell you what a magnetic moment is and what causes it. Or, you know, watch a veritasium video or whatever. it's not as fun as developing the pauli hamiltonian but it's something.

>
It is wrong. if memory serves, wood requires water, fire and earth. Having to specialize in 3 types is what makes it supposedly rare.

I'm also confused as to where the fuck does shikamaru's shadow jutsu fit in this garbage system.

Oda said that the fruit does what the user desires. It would make sense that they could do that.

>Make a better energy system

The Warp

?

Conjuration is fucking broken what are you talking about? Conjuration can take powers from other categories and they seem to benefit more from vows, conditoins and limitations than other categories. You don't want to fight a conjurer without know his/her power because it can literally be anything.

Thts not what Specalist is......

Yup I think sun and moon is Conjuration + Transmutation. The reason the mark lingers is because it's conjuration. Conjurers are strong as fuck when they have prep time.

still one of the coolest fucking scenes

I'll make myself too powerful via Specialization.
My specialization will be 100% proficiency in Conjuration and Enhancment.
The drawback/condition I set will be I have 0% in all others.

That two man combo would make me a god since I can conjure shit, enhance it, and myself.

Thats not how it works. You don't pick your %. If you wanted to pick then you better have an insane condition.

>nobody ever uses to hide their Stand or to evade attacks, even if it would be very useful.
Typically most Stands are more durable than their fleshy users, so retracting your Stand could dispel its abilities AND open your real body open to greater damage.

The sizes/telepowers things were originally involved at the beginning when they were more psychic manifestations.
