By far the most forced pairing in the history of pairing, even Ichihime was less forced than this, although I still wonder if Kubo ever thought of Rukia and Ichigo As more than just friends. Naruto and Hinata have 0 fucking chemistry.

I'm pretty sure she and Ino have 'girls night' every once in a while. Kishimoto even admitted in an interview that the most fitting pair for Sakura would be Ino, but since they are both girls, it wasn't an option.

Orihime just was useless luggage that had one confession wasted on an asleep man.

They had less on-screen interactions, but most of them either implied they spent time together off-screen (like when Shikamaru was her guide in her stay in Konoha), or were meaningful in some way (like when she comforted him when he wanted to quit being a ninja).

NaruSaku could have worked if Sakura wasn't an idiotically written character. The relationship could have worked, and all it would have taken is for Sakura to not have been a horrible human being, but Kishi couldn't manage even that.

But obviously the pairing was not meant to be and if it did happen, it would have been awful. I definitely don't think the pairing being good hinged on Naruto's characterization - he was mostly fine.

Because Ichigo was asleep when Orihime confessed her love it had more sense than in Naruto where Naruto ignored Hinata's confession even though he heard it.
And Orihime and Ichigo at least had a relationship, they were friends and interacted often. Naruto and Hinata hardly interacted and it couldn't even be said they were friends

She's was really cute in mid part 1 and early part 2, but Kishi regress her character when she does have actual decent/good development and makes her do 100 steps back, the animu doesn't help making her more abusive to Nardo than the mango she did have decent moments in the animu where she actually did something compared to the mango where they just had her stand around and have her male companions save her or handle or the 'good' work.

It all boils down to Kishi not being able to write female characters at the time (Temari, Tsunade and a few others with little screen time as the exceptions) and this is a SHONEN manga for young children so he probably had the mindset that young boys who buy JUMP rather see guys fighting and doing cool ninja shit and the girls on the sideline. Also can't forget the fact that Kishi said Sakura and Lee are supposed to be the more 'human' characters and Sakura is based on real women.

Either go in full force like Nakaba Suzuki and let it add to the story and further flesh out characters by committing to it or leave it out entirely. Hinata barely existed throughout the entire series, and in the latter half Kishimoto focused more on baiting readers and keeping the "love triangle" alive than giving his endgame couples more moments. Kishi didn't give a shit about the endgame pairings hence why he put together characters like Sai/Ino along with Chouji/Karui.

It was all worth it for the shitstorm surrounding the ending.

Huh? It's not the same situation at all. Orihime was actually a close friend to Ichigo whereas Hinata and Naruto barely spoke throughout the manga especially in the latter half. The first half was a great set-up for them to get closer especially with the whole "proud failure" speech, but Kishi failed to deliver.

Also the only thing Hinata and Orihime share in terms of character is body type and long hair. Orihime isn't shy at all, and even Ichigo points out in the beginning how easy it is for her to make friends. I don't know where this comes from.

Hell, him complaining about how she's like his mother during their exam fight should have clued you in, and if that didn't, the conversation he had with his dad should have sealed it. If not those, maybe his complaints about how unappealing she is when she saves his ass in the Tayuya fight, or the fact that they were seen together immediately after the timeskip and provided weak excuses for the reasons. It's one of the few things Kishi was actually quite clear on.

Most of his characters, just like Kishimoto himself I assume, only pair up and get married because of social pressure more than anything ressembling love. You will never make me believe Sasuke ever got married to Sakura for any other reasons. As for Naruto the guy only grew to like Hinata thanks to what is basically brainwashing. Before that he never felt anything for her other than pity. When you compare his feelings for his "bro" and the feelings Naruto has for Hinata, and the focus each has in the story, the gap is laughably wide.
