Great. Now we can finally admit it was a turd just like any anime made in the 80s.

Not going to watch this.
KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I was never a big fan of Hollywood remakes. I was always less a fan of Hollywood live action remakes of animations. The further left Hollywood goes the less of a fan I am of anything Hollywood does because they can't help but to inject political agendas into everything. Hollywood can't handle open-ended politics anymore, even one with such a basic cautionary tale base as Akira.
The animation was spectacular, but it completely butchered the source material.
>butchered the source material
It was made before Otomo literally finished the manga though.
>it completely butchered the source material
lurk moar
Not really. Animation is more than number of frames
>butchered the source material
No...I'm confident both were trash
Sure, but he was 6 years into an 8 year run. It's not like he was halfway through it.
I'm not going to be too harsh on them since fitting so much into a movie is simply impossible, but holy fuck, it cuts out half the major characters, including the titular character, and the characters that are still in the movie have little to no character development.
>Implying I haven't been on Sup Forums since before the /jp/ split
Whether you enjoyed the manga, which I'm totally sure you read, or not is irrelevant to whether the movie was a proper adaptation of it.
That's not really what I claimed. Both were trash.
Also, the impressive part of the movie's animation isn't the number of frames, but how much happens in each frame.
I really don't care whether you think both are trash or not. If the adaptation diverges that significantly, it's a poor adaptation.
You'd need 2 movies to do the manga justice. Just too much to cram in one 120 min movie. First movie would cover volumes 1-3 and the second movie would cover volumes 4-6.
It will flop regardless though. Not enough care about the source material in the West. Casting Asian or "diverse" actors won't fix that. Science fiction is a tough sell most of the time too. It feels like the majority of sci fi movies flop.
Would still feel as rushed as the Captain America: Civil War movie. You'd need at least 3 films. A TV show would be ideal.
So how will they fuck it up? Casting controversy? CGI bugeyes? Changing the story for no reason? Changing the Olympics background to avoid controversy? Place your bets.
Non sequitur.
>how much happens in each frame
Also irrelevant.
Fucking this.
>If the adaptation diverges that significantly, it's a poor adaptation.
Pleb opinion.
>If the adaptation diverges that significantly, it's a poor adaptation
That's not how adaptations work you dumbass
YES!!!!!!!!
>completely butchered the source material
The source material was trash.
The only saving grace of Akira were the visuals and amazing soundtrack because the plot was almost nonsensical, I don't see how that would translate well into live action.
What if Leo is still attached
What did they change from the movie & manga?
bug eyed
No chance
It took James Cameron, one of the most well known and respected popular film makers in the world, working for over a decade just to get Battle Angel Alita out of production hell. Why would Akira get pushed for now, with no one in particular to champion it, in the wake of the disappointing performance of GitS? Until I see a statement from WB or a trailer, I won't believe it
Live-action adaptations of anime/manga have been almost exclusively awful. It's amazing that people are still trying to make them.
It sort of makes me wonder who even comes up with the idea of making them.
Surely you think a weeaboo was involved somewhere, since even normies only barely give a shit about dragon ball, and normies certainly don't care about GitS, and what kind of normie would go out of their way to read Battle Angel Alita?
How can normies manage to so badly ruin things they have nothing to do with?
This
>be enthusiastic weeaboo involved with making movie based on anime/video game
>know how to do it right, have ideas on how to do it
>unfortunately, you work under fat, rich jew movie executives, who have SJW assistants, who have "ideas" of their own about how things should be
>pitch your ideas
>"Nah, the American audience would never go for that. How about adding a new version of an existing character who is a feminist with blue hair who is better than the main male character?"
>Can's say anything because you are some lowly peon, and they are fat and rich movie execs, so they MUST know what they're talking about.
The weebs who got work there and push for it are the kind of people you see on Deviantart making fanfictions and Sonic OCs.
They're autistically committed to the underlying works but they are only barely functional autists with naught 2 brain cells to rub together. They simply don't have the slightest clue of what it means to get a Hollywood live-action adaptation.
If you've ever been to that shithole /tg/ and heard people begging for Warhammer 40k movies and Battletech movies and I don't even know what else... That's exactly the Sonichu-kind of person you're looking at.
I expect something like this
