Harems are just another thing. They're not inherently good or bad. If done poorly they're bad, but done well and they can be quite enjoyable. They normally have a good amount of cute girls so that is nice.

Yes, its been my favorite genre since Love Hina.
But lately I don't enjoy them as much as I used too.
I don't think is the material fault, they are not better or worse than they used to be, its just now there are few harems in its pure form, now is more an element added into everything (mainly fantasy and urban fantasy) rather than a genre of itself, whick leaves pretty small room to develop the girls and the interactions since they are bussy doing magic stuff,
There is also lot of half assed harems that pretend no to be harems (Masamune, Netoge, Snafu, Youkoso...).

I like the concept of the genre but rarely do writers ever actually use it to it's proper effect.
Harems should not have a 'winner'. Harems should be that, harems. More than one winner, Multiple girls ending up with MC.
Having one winner only makes toxic fanbases who argue over best girl, and lord their victory regardless of how fucking awful the overall outcome was coughprisonschoolcough.
Second it breeds spineless beta MCs, something even anti-shounen/hotblooded people are probably sick of by now, who lead girls on, never stands up for himself whose only trait is 'he's a nice guy' and so on.
A good harem is a confident or even semi confident guy going around getting multiple girls through his words AND actions.

Yes it's the best. However it's difficult to find good large harems. The largest I have seen before character development goes to shit is 5. Past 5 partners it becomes a case of characters being forgotten or poorly developed. Also harem ends are few and far between.
