Sora no Woto

On this day, 8 years ago, the first episode of Sora no Woto aired.
I just finished my commemoratory rewatch, still my favourite thing out of everything I've seen.
Happy anniversary, brothers.

I'm giving it another year or two before another rewatch. Maybe I can forget about some of the small details and get to once again experience at least some of the joy of noticing things for the first time.

Was hoping they would delve into the angel thing, it was really boring.

i always liked those tile pattern things hanging on walls of every building, does anyone have a full compilation of them?

Is there a streaming this year?

yes

This is definitely my favorite anime. You have good taste.
Aisha is the most pure cinnamon roll in all of anime

Noel is a lucky girl.

>ywn spam EYE JOE with fellow SnWfags for the first time again

Best girls

I finished it yesterday, it became interesting at the end but I couldn't stop looking at Rio's Rios

Was the stream always on Sunday or on Saturday? I've completely forgotten.

Sora no Woto is Haibane Renmei done right.

Hello tile user.

it's this saturday

Maybe someone should have tried telling people. What time does it even start?

Pretty sure they're based on the tiles there in real life.

It baffles me that there are some people who genuinely believe that.

so when the fuck is it? i don't wanna miss it

8pm gmt i think

Not understanding the concept of others having different opinions than your own is a hallmark of autism.

>I just finished my commemoratory rewatch
Why didn't you wait for the stream, though?

The stream that apparently doesn't even have a start time.

Here's another one

It's 20:00 utc, like every year.

This type of thing would be helpful to know in advance user. I've only caught two other ones and there are new anons watching SnW every day.
For example there's not even a link ITT for anyone who doesn't have it (I assume we're using ustream again?).

Was there ever a release of the instrumental version of Servante du Feu that shows up in a few episodes?

You could also learn to read this thread
It's already been posted here.

The link has been posted ITT? Where?

The stream isn't newfag general. If you followed at least one or two SnW threads during this years, it was sure mentioned or the image was posted.
Using the archives wouldn't hurt, either.

If you want latecomer-anons to actually spot it and avoid things becoming stagnant/a circle-jerk it should still be more obvious. Not everyone who has only recently watched the show is a newfag, hell I didn't bother watching it until ~2013.

It was plain, shallow garbage.

You're clearly not cool enough to come in to the secret clubhouse, stop asking.

It's been said in several other threads and the stream starts at the same time every year.
What the fuck do you mean "This type of thing would be helpful to know in advance user". Do you want to have the stream date/time personally thrown through your fucking mailbox?
Check the archives or something, it's not hard.

Sure friend, they should set up a facebook group for the stream next year so that we can send invites to everyone. That should do the trick.

>It's been said in several other threads and the stream starts at the same time every year.
It wasn't in the last SnW thread I checked a few weeks back nor in the other threads where SnW was either brought up in an OP with another subject or ended up being discussed. Now granted I'm not on Sup Forums or even Sup Forums as much as I once was as the quality of discussion has declined noticeably in recent years (and frankly I have less free time) but I lurk enough that I should have seen it at least once.
>What the fuck do you mean "This type of thing would be helpful to know in advance user". Do you want to have the stream date/time personally thrown through your fucking mailbox?
In previous years the image would reliably show up early on in threads which helped get new blood in. This has not been the case recently.
>Check the archives or something, it's not hard.
This isn't so much a personal thing: if I hadn't heard I'd obviously just check previous links at the same time as last year and maybe bother digging through the archives. It's anons who have only seen the show in the last year or even the last few months and aren't aware of the stream who aren't going to check the archive for details of something they don't even know exists. Unless you want to limit the stream to anons who regularly follow every SnW thread (that risks a circle-jerk) not advertising it often and clearly is a shitty idea.
That's not even close to what I'm suggesting you strawmanning faggot, I'm saying just the post the details on Sup Forums regularly in relevant threads. If you think the stream is somehow above the average user that's circle-jerk thinking.

...

I reiterate, the stream date and time have been posted in most of the threads over the last half year. Now by your own admission you may not browse enough for it to catch your eye and I'd understand that people won't be looking for it months in advance, but the advertising was there all the time. Also keep in mind that risking getting banned for advertising is just as much of a shitty idea.
The date/time was also posted in a recent Haibane Renmei, as well as the fucking r/a/dio newyears threads.

Sora no Woto and Haibane Renmei are both masterpieces that share a lot of elements but ultimately have pretty different messages/themes.

>tfw accidentally bought calvados Domfrontais instead of regular calvados
Should I go back and but the regular kind? I actually like this type, the pear scent is really nice and I feel like it's a bit smoother.

>I reiterate, the stream date and time have been posted in most of the threads over the last half year. Now by your own admission you may not browse enough for it to catch your eye and I'd understand that people won't be looking for it months in advance, but the advertising was there all the time.
Well it's possible that sheer statistical bad luck has had me miss it but I find that somewhat unlikely. Do you make a conscious effort to get it advertised in all timezones? That might actually have been the problem.
>Also keep in mind that risking getting banned for advertising is just as much of a shitty idea.
Ah right, I forgot how arbitrarily enforced that rule can be. Given what happened in the past with things like the 4CC I can see some concerns there. Was this not part of the reason why an image was used previously to convey most of the details? I know /k/'s patch thread avoids being removed as advertising through creative use of pastebin.
>The date/time was also posted in a recent Haibane Renmei
If so my bad, though it was still more commonly posted in previous years.
>as well as the fucking r/a/dio newyears threads.
I filter anything r/a/dio related because of the constant meta-drama it's prone to so I would have missed it.

That actually sounds really good, I'll have to keep an eye out for it. It's the thought that counts anyways, and it's still technically calvados.

>If you want latecomer-anons to actually spot it
I literally just found a thread from 3 days ago with all the information you're asking here for.

>becoming stagnant/a circle-jerk
It's an annual rewatch with fellow wotos anons, why wouldn't it be a circlejerk?

>Not everyone who has only recently watched the show is a newfag
Why don't you use the archive then?

...

user, I'm sorry that user is being a cunt. Just hang out here and someone will eventually post where the stream is. Or just wait until the 6th when the stream goes live, there will most likely be a thread about it.

Are you planing on appreciating it like a gentleman or just getting drunk with the OVA?
If it's the latter, I don't think it matters.

...

My favorite episode was the pee episode.

>I literally just found a thread from 3 days ago with all the information you're asking here for.
>Why don't you use the archive then?
I found the details anyway user, hell I have them from the last year too. I'm stating that for the benefit of anons who have no previous knowledge of the stream or indeed even the show things should be clearer as they have been in the past.
If on the other hand there's an issue of mods suddenly declaring something that was previously fine to be against the rules I can understand the change, they've pulled such shit previously.
>It's an annual rewatch with fellow wotos anons, why wouldn't it be a circlejerk?
It won't be a circle-jerk if you ensure fresh blood finds its way in. Obviously this needs to be a trickle and not a flood but that's a given.

Why no UTC tho?

>My favorite episode was the pee episode.

>Obviously this needs to be a trickle and not a flood but that's a given.

I want piss-posters to leave.

Other than answering any "stream when" questions I see and posting the image every now and then there's no real conscious effort to advertise at all timezones on my part.
>I forgot how arbitrarily enforced that rule can be.
Yea, I've previously been banned for a day for posting just the image.

It was legitimately the best episode of anime ever made.

I've never drunk brandy in my life, should I go for it? Mostly been a winefag these last 6 or 7 years since it tastes great. Not a huge fan of beer and drinking so much hard liquor in my youth makes me hurl.

UTC is the same thing as GMT outside of summertime. UTC is better though since it's universally understood.
I want anti-piss-poster-posters to leave.
Go for a younger calvados, it'll taste more like apples and less like brandy. Also mixing it with tea would probably work.

>it'll taste more like apples and less like brandy.
I like the sound of that. Cheers, user.

>Other than answering any "stream when" questions I see and posting the image every now and then there's no real conscious effort to advertise at all timezones on my part.
Right, it's most likely that then. With less free time I'm normally only lurking in the same specific window and if anons from a certain timezone aren't seeing these things it'll become self-reinforcing that they don't repost it.
>Yea, I've previously been banned for a day for posting just the image.
Right, then I apologise for not blaming mods for this. Arbitrary moderation has been the death of many a good meta-event.

I'll never forget. I was deployed living in a shitty shack in the middle of Qatar working all night and sitting up half the day before going to bed.

To be fair there hasn't been a very long-lasting snw thread in recent memory too.

I wouldn't go younger than VSOP though
Otherwise, what's the point.

brandy is just distilled wine, user. If you're going to start with liquor, you end with liquor. Don't drink some liquor and then move on to wine, okay? And when it's time for bed you take some ibuprofen and drink a big glass of water. You'll feel kinda shitty the next day but you'll live.

>UTC is the same thing as GMT outside of summertime. UTC is better though since it's universally understood.
We should just use Zulu time since it's a military anime.

That's a sad state of affairs.
To someone with little experience it's just going to taste like brandy at that point anyway.
Isn't that just another name for UTC anyway?

DOLPHINS ARE EVIL AND DANGEROUS AND WILL EAT YOU

>To someone with little experience it's just going to taste like brandy at that point anyway.
I'm of the opinion that they should dive in with the real stuff if they're going to bother at all. Why get some lame apple-flavoured brandy when watching SnW? Spend the money and get some nice Calvados. If you hate it, you have some for next year. If you like it, well shit maybe you have some actual taste. Why waste your cash on something that isn't the real deal?

>Isn't that just another name for UTC anyway?
it is, but it sounds cooler.

Younger calvados is still calvados and honestly is nicer if you want a taste of apples. Is there any indication as to how long they age the bottles in SnW anyway? I'd think they'd go for younger since it's bootlegging anyway and if so then it'd be more appropriate to drink that.
Also it'd be foolish to waste money on something you not only wouldn't appreciate but might well not like.

First time watcher here. If I can't find any Calvados in my city can I use Armenian Cognac instead?

Enjoyed most of it, the world building is just perfect, the cgdct is there, some actions and spooky moments are sprinkled here and there, just too enjoyable, unforgettable ova, kick-ass OST.
I loved this show, despite the fact the ending turned out kind of underwhelming to me, I simply couldn't stop tearing up to Amazing Grace.
That being said, I owe this one a re-watch.

>In two years it will be SnW's 10-year anniversary

FUCK.

I'm not sure how long they store the bottles for. Was it a job they started when they moved to the fort, or was it something they inherited from the last group that was garrisoned there? Also I don't think we ever see a still, or anyone actually sitting around and distilling the calvados. All we really see are the bottles.

Anyway, a nice bottle of VSOP Calvados shouldn't run you more than $50 or $60, depending on where you live. It's not a huge investment IMO. Sure there are cheaper liquors but to me, anyone who loves SnW enough to watch the yearly stream should really at least buy a bottle. I'm not saying you should force yourself to get drunk on it or waste it, but even just a single glass, sipped, adds a lot to the experience. Knowing you got the real deal, something nice and valuable, makes it that much more special. It's like being a part of the action and drinking what the characters are drinking. I don't necessarily disagree with you either. There's nothing wrong with younger Calvados, but I also don't think you should scare people off the older stuff just because of the price. This is a special occasion, it's okay to spend a bit more. If you just want to get drunk off calvados like the girls do, you might as well buy some young, cheap stuff i guess.

Furthermore, it's a good practice to be familiar with some alcohols and know their history. Stashing the bottle away in a cabinet and breaking it out when friends or family are around is a good experience. You take it out and pour everyone a little bit and talk about the liquor. Even if all you know about it is from the anime, it makes the act of drinking it that much more enjoyable to everyone you're with. Pretty much every liquor is an acquired taste anyway, it takes time to appreciate the drink for what it is.

I'm pretty sure you see a still in the background of episode 7.5 though I'm not certain so I guess I'll find out with the rewatch. That they inherited it from previous occupants is clearly established in one episode as Rio stated she learned her mother's favourite calvados was from the fort. I'd assume though that they want a quick turnaround for making money.
I wasn't trying to scare anyone off of older calvados because of higher price he specifically stated he'd never even tried brandy so I suggested he go for something that was more universally likeable in terms of taste with lower price just an added bonus. In fact I'd even say someone is more likely to be scared off calvados taste-wise if they jumped in at the deep end expecting the taste of apples or if not scared off they might write it off as uninteresting. Better to try the younger ones out first and then build up to older calvados if wanted later.
As for "young, cheap stuff" the price doesn't mean shit all to your enjoyment of something and nothing says you have to drink it to excess just because it's cheaper. The lower cost is not a result of lower quality in this instance as long as you still go for a good bottle from a reputable source. Now that said for all I know things might differ in the US compared to here perhaps something like it not being profitable to ship good quality younger calvados over so you only get the shite stuff but I wouldn't know about that and since it's a niche product anyway I wouldn't think it was the case.

Better than nothing.

>It won't be a circle-jerk if you ensure fresh blood finds its way in.
What if I prefer a circlejerk over leddit MEMERZ?

I'm not falling for your alcoholism tricks, Satan.

Do yourself a favor and drink Pommeau, not Calvados.

...

Noel is cute. CUTE!

Thanks for this anons, I'll make sure to not be stingy and get decent stuff.

Good points all around really. I guess it boils down to a number of factors. However, it's worth noting that to someone who drinks mostly wine (or even beer), even young calvados isn't going to taste especially fruity. While the apple flavor might be more prominent in younger calvados, it's not like it's cider or something. But there are a number of mixed drinks you can make with calvados, and the younger stuff generally does better in this regard because the more obvious apple flavor is easier to work with and bring out.

Friendly reminder that not only is Noel a war criminal, but she also sexually assaulted a POW!

>tfw asshole divine intervention and missing streams

Good luck user, as long as it isn't suspiciously cheap you'll still enjoy it.
I forgot to take into account the preference for wine so good point there. As for mixing you're spot on but clearly tea is the only correct choice while watching SnW.
And she's the worst girl.

>And she's the worst girl.
You take that back

>She just wants to be a wife
C-cute!

She's the only character that has:
1. Killed other people
2. fixed a giant tank which only exists to kill people
3. Sexually assaulted anyone
and
4. attempted to hide her past from even her closest friends because deep down she's ashamed of the horrible person she was, not realizing that hiding that sort of thing still makes her a bad person because she's lying to the people who care about her.

>Hisako Kanemoto and Aoi Yuuki were both newbie seiyuu when this aired

What the fuck happened?

They grew as people, unlike all of us.

>Hisako Kanemoto
Something something Hisako is a bitch. I don't hate her voice tho, 3D happenings can stay in that dimension.

I thought commemorative Woto watch was later in the year.

>Killed other people
Not directly, to my memory. She helped with research into some kind of ambiguous super-weapon but she was coerced into it, for all we know they were lying to her about what the research was really for. Besides, it's probable that at least Felicia has as directly killed people as well, since she saw active combat. They are soldiers during wartime after all.
>fixed a giant tank which only exists to kill people
A giant tank which never actually harmed anyone and was instrumental into stalling long enough to stop a war that would have killed thousands.
>Sexually assaulted anyone
I think it's likely that Kureha is actually the only character who isn't guilty of this
>attempted to hide her past from even her closest friends because deep down she's ashamed of the horrible person she was, not realizing that hiding that sort of thing still makes her a bad person because she's lying to the people who care about her.
Sure, that's a legitimate flaw in her character but a lot of her growth as a character is based on overcoming it and realizing that people can be more forgiving towards her than she was.

You might be thinking of the idiot that streamed it for no reason and skipped the OP and ED every time.

It has been six years since Ijime Connect

Would this be good enough for Calvados? It's the only stuff that my local liquor mart has.

SnW is K-ON with guns.

Go for it.

3Hz should do an S2. All their recent shows make me think they were born to do so.

Not gay enough.

Because it runs at a terribly inconvenient time for me.

That's the same brand I have, mine says V.S.O.P. on it though. It's good.

>tfw 2010 was 28 years ago
