What is it so complicated to understand about this that it has made people talk about it for more than 20 years?

What is it so complicated to understand about this that it has made people talk about it for more than 20 years?

People still can't understand that Asuka is best girl.

We're talking about the anime audience here.

because the proverbial competition is retarded

When 99% of anime is abject shit, even okay plots stand out

The average person talks about this show because of the mecha fighting or fights over Rei vs Asuka. The most shallow parts of the show. It has nothing to do with the plot being complex or deep.

It's a good show, and because the director is butthurt that Rei is better than Asuka he fanned the waifu war flames so sheep like this: could exist.

this.
every evangelion discussion will end in an argument between intelligent people and those that don't realise that Rei is supposed to be a non-character with no personality

There are three aspects to the OG anime.

- Robots fighting
- Character development and psychological-trauma related plot lines
- Psuedo-religious non-sense

By the end of the show, you get a decent amount of robots fighting, and interesting character development. The anime did not have an actual ending to the main plot, which is all the garbage psuedo-religious bull shit. The audience who enjoyed the first two aspects got what they wanted out of the series. The rest who actually watched it for the main plot are edgy teenagers that now watch the movies.

It's not complicated. The plot is just non-sense on the level of tsubasa reservoir chronicles, helix season 2, etc...

Au contraire. Your own wording betrays you. Rei is just what she is, not what you think she's "supposed" to be. If anything you're implying that we should reject reality for a fantasy, ironically the same thing the show warns you about.

In truth, every Evangelion discussion ends up as a discussion with idiotic insecure fanboys and girls who like Asuka and the rest of us. Some are Rei fans, some are not - but all of us are tired and perhaps by mistake, give you enough room to deteriorate discussion.

The original Rei has a more original and personal character than Asuka, both in a meta sense (Rei defined her own archetype whilst Asuka copied one), and in a meaningful sense in the story (Rei defines herself by herself, Asuka defines herself by what her puppet masters defines her as, an EVA pilot).

The original Evangelion is a brilliant story which uses Asuka as a warning against escapism, and Rei as a guide out of it. "Accept reality", Rei says, while Asuka has bitter dreams about someone she never was.

I think you’re mistaking plot with the style of the scifi. The plot was rather basic. SEELE and Gendo got Shinji, Rei and then Asuka to fight the Angels, who wanted to come in contact with Lilith. Once done with those, they sent out the mass produced Eva series to get Shinji (at his lowest mental state) to commence Instrumentality. SEELE wanted to be in charge of instrumentality with the pretense of removing humanity’s suffering. Gendo wanted to take control of it to reunite with Yui. Rei said fuck that, and gave control to Shinji instead. Shit gets fucked up and everyone is tang’d, now part of one of being altogether. Shinji struggles a lot and after eventually coming to terms with himself, he rejects instrumentality, bringing himself, asuka and potentially everyone else out of instrumentality.

That’s just a summary and a lot of detail is involved but it’s a pretty clear plot. Of course though, the character drama and psychology is the main point, as you said.

There's very autistic people who can't accept that Rei is superior to Asuka in more or less every way.

>menstruating bitch
>slut in training
>jobber
no

>iconic characters
>iconic mechs
>off the rails plot
>lots of open-ending questions
People will literally never stop talking about Eva. It has all the ingredients to be discussed forever.

spbp.

It's actually not hard to understand at all if you have more than 2 brain cells.

Evangelion is complicated the same way everyone's life is complicated. It's not actually that hard to understand at all, but fuck if that means we know how to deal with it.

Some people have been tricked into thinking Rei isn't the best girl.

The symbolisms are shit so Eva is not hard to understand because of that, It's complicated because it's about people relating to each other, and Anno made a fucking great work at portraying it throught the unconscious and a series of images and phrases about that. The difference with knowing that they are "a soulless doll, an angry bitch and a crying baby" and actually feeling them and being able to relate to everyone of them is what makes it so confusing, human feelings are confusing, we are confusing, that's why EoE is also confusing.
Again, Anno did a great work at using Eva as a medium to express his feelings and construct characters with more than one dimension.

this scene is funny. shini starts off saying "saaa..."

top kek

Which ep is this one?

Because it's a show written for autistic people that requires you to not have autism to understand, but yet simultaneously requires you to have autism in order to WANT to understand.

kaji comes over

I think its 19 or 20

From the thumbnail, I thought these were pictures of the columbine shooters after they killed themselves

Nonsensical christian imagery, a dull, coward protagonist that losers can relate to, and some toe deep philosophy.

Because it's not about the fucking plot. Eva is a character study. But all anyone talks about is LOL CHRISTIAN IMAGERY FAKE DEEP. Fucking morons, everywhere.

REI BEST GIRL FITE ME REEEEE

It gets talked so much about because of threads like yours OP.

Judging from these threads, nobody cares about Eva except for waifusfags.

i rewatched recently and this was the only part that bothered me: both seele and gendo wanted the same thing, for different reasons. why did it matter who did it first? makes no sense. seems like forced antagonism. also they never mention seele's director again after two episodes where it seemed he'd be the final human boss.

evidence.

rewatch the damn thing nibba

Evangelion is about loneliness. Why do people still not get this?

>What is it so complicated to understand

I think whoever initiated it would have the power to bend it to their own aims, which were similar in a way but different enough that they wouldn't be compatible

Because they're too distracted by DUDE THE SYMBOLISM DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING LMAO or fucking waifu shit to actually pay attention

This nigga gets it. People get very distracted by the giant robots and what have you, but the real point of Eva is that human relationships are complex and difficult.

Why does nobody talk about the best character?

Once you learn more about and understand Evangelion a little more, you can't help but to want to discuss it with other people - it's something that can be interpreted in a lot of ways, despite the simple message that human connection is a must, even if it hurts.

Pen Pen is too much for anyone.

They are distracted by the side story of the angels and shit, that's why people think its complicated.

You do all realise with out the misappropriated bible refrences and giants killing each other, no one would give a flying fuck about this series. The fake complication is what draws people in, and with out it you would have a whiney kid with daddy issues that everyone would still say for him to man the fuck up.

A bunch of poorly done themes and social commentaries that did jell with the overall concept of the show from a director that is good at visual style but pretty much nothing else.

Pretty much BvS in anime form.

>it's a good show

shit that's actually not a bad comparison

cause it tries to express the theme of loneliness by contrasting it with the idea of religious communion

The details of the symbolism don't mean anything but the fact that there is religious imagery is there to suggest that people foolishly seek a "pure" and harmless relationship that can't actually be achieved because people are dicks.
