I don't get it.
I don't get it
I didn't like it either.
But its fine, its just not your thing.
And you don't seem to understand.
There's not much to get, the whole series is supported almost entirely by the god tier atmosphere it manages to create.
A shame you seemed an honest man
and the things you hold so dear
Apparently, ABe is working on new series but the characters don't look anything like his previous designs. Seems soulless and generic.

What a shame.
This. Only Texhnolyze comes close.
Read the manga and play the PS1 game. It was 1/3 of a multimedia project.
The interpretation is open to the viewer.
you not supposed to
i didn't either until i watched it while on drugs, then it made sense
There's plenty to get. You are right though, with all its themes and actual references it would mean nothing without its atmosphere and tone.
aand you don't seem to uunderstaaaAAAaAAand
Just watch Dennou Coil if you want the same concept but with actual plot and good writing
I didn't either.
But the atmosphere...damn.
Lain is so good.
PRESENT DAY; PRESENT TIME
No, actually 20 years ago.
I really do love ABe's character designs usually but that looks nothing like ABe's style.
>and the things you hold so dear
and all the fears you hold so dear
time scarier than a motherfucker
Well you finally did it. Now I had to filter the OP lyrics for this board so I can enjoy Lain threads without developing a hatred for the song. Why can't you just talk about Lain?
It's like elfin lied, edge masters only.
I want to forget Elfen Lied. Lain wants us to forget her.
>Lain wants us to forget her
That is the complete opposite of what Lain would want
LET'S ALL LEWD LAIN
Just a random Haibanefag passing by, don't mind me
ABe is god tier
I wonder if he ever visits Sup Forums
You should give praise to the writers too, not just the character designer.
what if I just like the designs
But you did get it. That's the point of the show. That's why it's good.
The heart of Lain is in what she's trying to tell you
So is the "Lain is a program" theory true?
We got some good discussion in on the last thread, give it a read if you want a deeper understanding.
>Lain is a program
>The Earth is an extremely powerful supercomputer
Douglas Adams be damned..
"Young man, in Lain you don't understand things. You just get used to them."
-John von Neumann
Get your towel ready!
>he doen't get it
The previous Lain thread was a very decent one and many theories on what Lain actually was were considered. Some think Lain wasn't created, but found, a digital god, and then in attempt to control it introduced into a physical relm. Hence the several Lains, as the smug one tries to fuck shit up for the confused, real world one.
Look it up:
The key to understanding Lain is to first suffer through it, then proceed to read 10 blogposts randomly found on the internet that seek to analyze it, act like you understood the anime on your own and shit on people who couldn't muster the courage to finish that borefest by calling them "brainlets" for accessible self-gratification.
Or just play the game and watch it again
>suffer through it
Lain is unironically a 10/10 for me and I was able to grasp the core of it after first watch. Just because you're a brainlet and wasn't able to enjoy it doesn't mean others met the same fate.
I love both, but Coil's plot thematic exploration are less interesting than Lain's. And they hardly have anything to do with one another besides the cyberpunk kids concept.
The basic themes of Lain (e.g. identity and subjectivity in the information age) are pretty easy to grasp even if the surrealistic parts leave a lot of room for various interpretations. It's the same thing with other shows like NGE and FLCL that people deride as 2deep4u
Not an argument
>identity and subjectivity
These things need to be taken in the context of metaphysical truths about the world, not the internet. Lain isn't about the internet.
>Why can't you just talk about Lain?
I want to fuck Lain in front of Arisu.
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!
What?
The Lain OP is absolutely fantastic.
Yeah, it is. Doesn't mean retards need to spam it everywhere and ruin it.
...
Anyone knows where I can get the game images?

Thanks user
The soundtrack is sooo good

Will turn to whisper in your ear
Glad to have ya!
A.... ri... su...
The gist (jizzed) of it is that Lain watches you masturbate.
Lain was just a show about cool technology. Gen Z won't get it because they've lived with smart phones all their life.
That wasn't Lain, so no
SEL is about everyone being connected, gen z with handheld miniature computers stronger than any pc that existed in 1998 will definitely relate.
np
According to the rumors I just made up, they will announce a new Lain anime this year, screencap this.
The anime is pretty easy to understand though, it explains mostly everything post episode 9.
Lain is a program made by the dude who abused earths electromagnetic waves or whatever to create an augmented reality kind of like Microsoft HoloLens but with your mind, i haven't seen it in a few years so I don't remember all the details.
Also my english is shit.
Nobody gets it. It's incoherent nonsense under the guise of "lol it means whatever to whoever".
And you don't seem to understand
He should have taken into account all the influence America had over Japan prior to to the making of his anime
It's not incoherent and it's not nonsense. If you think it is, explain why.
That's exactly what he said, nig
Daily reminder that Chris Cunningham should have directed it
I mean he underestimated America's influence, or maybe he overstimated the value of culture on people altogether
>everyone pretends to actually get it but never explain anything: the thread
...
I didn't get it but it's still a masterpiece that I really enjoy.
Only seen it twice though, and a few episodes a little more
The burden is on the whining faggots saying that it's pretentious and meaningless to prove why it is. If you want it explained without being mocked, you can easily ask in a civil manner.
Stop trying to misinterpret this as meaning that there is no meaning. Did he not literally say in the quote that he was surprised that Americans and the Japanese had the same reaction to it?
i'm saying that you are not supposed to
that what the intention
so stop trying, because that's what creator wanded
...
I didn't get it until five years after I watched it the first time.
Now it all makes sense.
That's not what "the creator" wanted. Ueda said that he personally, not Konaka or the other people who worked on it, wanted Americans to not understand it AS THE JAPANESE WOULD. And that does not need to refer to plot either, which is clear and explained. He's probably talking thematic material.
At least its not as much of a downgrade as the Gundam Zeta guy. Now that is some shit were you look at his new art and go "what the fuck happened?" this is generic as fuck but at least its not shit.
And let me add to that that thematic material can have a defined and intended truth, which Ueda hoped was interpreted differently (as in responded to and reacted to differently) by two different cultures.
>Q: throughout you see people's lips moving...like chisa, lain's sister, alice...
>M: Oh, when they speak and nothing comes out?
>Q: yeah, what does that mean?
>U: Lain's sister, Mika, you say? gaa gaa pee pee. No?
>M: Mika, not Chisa.
>(general confusion about the characters in question)
creators don't either
You don't have to.
Lain is the kind of show that everyone can get something different out of, even if that thing is nothing. If you want, go back and pay close attention to any details that seem out of place. One example is that Lain's house is the only one in her neighborhood that's at a slant.
Creators usually don't do things arbitrarily. There's some internal logic than can be back-traced once you consider all the strange details and find the common thread connecting them.
Brainfuck. Pay attention to the episode about internet and hyperlinks. A lot of /x/ things. Internet was planned to be a big neural center.
SEL is one of those rare few series where the fan created content is mostly good and I love that as well as the whole worldbuilding and vibe of it all
