Why is it never an option to hire a mercenary or adventurer in these isekai's? Always slaves. He's in an adventurer's guild, adventurers take escort NPC jobs all the time, you'd think the logical step would be to walk over to the job board and tack on a "escort non combatant" job.
For once I'd like the MC to go to a tavern/inn and look for a mercenary, instead of going to the local SlaveMart(TM)
Luke Torres
Because the otaku NEET MC needs someone who will never betray him or leave him under any circumstances.
Ian Howard
I blame Shield Hero for starting that.
Kayden Ward
Nah, it' s basical NEET psychology.
Noah Wood
Slave Pros: You have a chance to fuck them Cons: Will probably shank you, unequipped, untrained
Hired Sword Pros: Equipped, trained Cons: Sex isn't included in the contract
Christopher Wright
>sex not included That depends on how good of a negotiator you are.
Ryder Garcia
...so not included.
Zachary Mitchell
>Why is it never an option to hire a mercenary or adventurer in these isekai's? It cost less money I guess.
Cameron Turner
The king recruited the first companions for the heroes. Then the heroes had the option to either dismiss or add more people to their group. Some of those people would be attracted to the prospect of being a part of the group that saved the world(itsuki's justice troupe), others to the rewards and money that come with adventuring with a hero, and even a few would join to get closer to the heroes, be it for their own personal interests(like lena) or being interested on the heroes themselves(malty initially). The thing is that we don't get to see this with naofumi because he's basically satan in the eyes of most of the populace of melromarc. And even if he did get hired help, they would most likely try to scam him. And even Naofumi's attitude at the time didn't help, he refused help from people sympathetic to his situation (most of them demihumans) because his trust in people was at an all-time low.
Kevin Walker
Rental vs. owning. Plus you don't have to worry as much about disagreements about sharing any rewards.
Jason Cruz
What chapter was it when shieldbro became a mad scientist with pillars forming a shield or something. Not sure if wn or ln. I stopped there and want to pick it up again.
Easton Perez
I wouldn't mind it if the slaves hired were actual fucking labour-ready slaves, but they're always a loli, probably a catgirl and inevitably vying for their captor's dong. I guess a band of merry negroes surrounding the poor little yellow boy just doesn't look as good on an LN cover.
Nathaniel Cooper
>Why is it never an option to hire a mercenary or adventurer in these isekai's? 75% of the time mercenaries are turncoats who will probably try to kill you or bail on you whenever the chance shows itself.
Benjamin Sanders
I don't see white bois writing fantasy surrounding themselves with black dongs but then again I don't read American trashy novels.
Nicholas Martinez
According to bakatsuki, chapter 275 of the WN. That arc is my favorite, sadly it isn't in the LN, we're waaaaaaaay past that in the japanese releases. Have you read the LN yet by any chance?
Landon Price
She and her band of mercenaries got beaten up by his mom afterwards
Some people just either forget or ignore this fact. Those kinds of settings are different to the reality we know.
Josiah Bennett
>Plus you don't have to worry as much about disagreements about sharing any rewards That's what contracts are for
Logan Cox
Oh, ok. Good that slaves are the pinicle of loyality then.
James Reyes
But then why not doing a magical contract with mercs?
Easton Gomez
Yep. It may depends on how much slave cost and what kind of slave, for how long you need escort, etc, but in the end slave owning will cost you only meals and maybe extra logging (though there's also a question of buying/keeping equipment), while with mercenary or adventurer you will be hemorrhaging much more money. Slavery is overused in those isekai's too much, but it could make sense from economical standpoint.
Cooper Jones
They could use the same magic to prevent betrayal on the mercenary contract (read adventurer) because LOL MAGIC!1!!.
Slaves that get "bought" by isekai MC tend to be used to show how good and progresive s/he is. In short they are virtual signaling MC superior morals.
David Barnes
The MC of Saikyou no Shokugyou wa Yuusha demo Kenja demo naku Kanteishi (Kari) rashii desu yo? can't be swindled since he has the [CONTRACT] skill that magically enforces fair exchanges. A mercenary wouldn't be able to betray him, other than offering a 0 Gold contract and be forced to say "I'm going to betray you".
Jace Ward
The idea that you need what's essentially an implied threat of violence to gain someone's affection just goes to show how incapable the target audience is of empathy.
Cooper Anderson
Doesn't need to be that way, but when both parties agree on a contract they do amgical bond to maintain it.
Blake Stewart
Because in the end, human just wants to have the safest possible solution.
Owen Parker
Even with high equipment expenses a slave would still be cheaper in the long run. ex: mc gets a somewhat young but capable girl slave any rare equipment will be used to it's fullest instead of just leaving at the end of the contract for a higher buyer or selling the equipment like a jew then asking for more. It also allows for the mc who will obviously have at least one bullshit enchant to make custom equipment that can last for years rather than months or weeks.
Chase Rogers
Tahat does not answer our question, if there is magic capable of making a sentinent beign not betray a contact why does iskai mc get slaves?
Josiah Garcia
I don't read the manga from the OP, but in other isekai, that kind of contract doesn't exist. I just say generally isekai chooses slaves because of this .
Elijah Cox
Are you also implying that most American novels need to have guns aplenty because none of the target readers can ever understand how to resolve conflicts like an adult and without any violence?
Angel Cook
yeah, basic economics would bring the price of the two options down to roughly the same with subjective circumstances separating them.
alternatively, if effective combat slaves are cheap enough then you wouldn't have mercenaries or adventurers at all. just armies of slaves running around on behalf of their owners.
Lincoln Martinez
Great, but it was pointed out that if there is magic that bounds slaves to their master the same magic can be applied to a specific merc contract. The latter gives you an professional that will fight for you on his own accord and not because he is forced, what would probably lower his capability.
Aiden Nguyen
Is this the manga with the training wheel tutorial elf?
Jonathan Carter
>They could use the same magic to prevent betrayal on the mercenary contract (read adventurer) because LOL MAGIC!1!!. Would you, as a mercenary, willingly enter a contract to protect someone else and/or his possessions with your own life no matter what? I imagine you should be really desperate or ask for a lot of money to do that, which, in both cases, makes hiring someone else normally be a better option.
Chase Cook
yes. The support class "inspector" isekai. I'm annoyed at the name of the healing spells/potions: heal, better heal, super heal, ultra heal.
Ryder Mitchell
As good as Heal, Heal+, Full heal.
Dylan Peterson
honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm
Josiah Martin
>Saikyou no Shokugyou wa Yuusha demo Kenja demo naku Kanteishi (Kari) rashii desu yo? why would anyone read something with such a disgusting red-flag title?
Oliver Ramirez
Are you not aware that most of Sup Forums is teenagers?
Mason Butler
I was hoping that his [skill] at reading medical texts would mean that he'd be some kind of chemist/doctor/surgeon who'd try to heal people using science. Instead he casts literal ULTRA HEAL to grow back the missing arm and leg of an adventurer.
Isaiah Rivera
what a convenient ability for people with no social skills or understanding of the world
Cooper Morales
Consider this the answer then.
Oliver Williams
Not really, if anything it will become a trust issue later. Also a really convenient ability for people with no social skills would be commusho skill from isekai commusho. The MC literally blames other people because he's a failure, and given a commusho skill which basically increases charisma stats. That isekai is literally a self-wishfullness isekai.
Charles Allen
As a matter of fact yes, adventurers guild do that, or mercenaries anyway, i just found the idea of slaves silly in these works
Christopher Torres
Better question, why can't the MC ever convince the guild girl to leave her job and go adventuring with him. They're always the best girls anyway.
Asher Sanders
The MCs tend to be self inserts, you think any nip authors are confident enough to woo a girl into joining them. Also, the target audience will probably go full autist over it.
Michael Edwards
The fact you say this shows that you never read any isekai created by japs.
Colton Gutierrez
It wouldnt require realistic wooing. Take the manga from OP's picture. MC just saved the life of that girl's brother. She says she'll do anything to show her gratitude, then immediately suggest he gets slaves to help him. She could have just said she's going to follow him from now on as his assistant. Who wouldn't want a brown cat girl who has professional knowledge of the world following them around giving them advice on all the strange new things they're experiencing?
Austin Fisher
>Shield Hero Shield hero had plausible reasonable reasons to buy a slave. 1) he had no way to do damage on his own 2) he was summoned to a country where NO ONE wanted to party with him 3) his one party member betrayed, robbed and then accused him of rape; guaranteeing no one would party with him
90% of Isekai never bothers with reasons. They use slavery to give the uncomfortable beta neck-beards a waifu who can NEVER abandon or betray them.
Justin Jones
Then people would complain about how 'convenient' things turned out for the MC. The best play would be to use those circumstances to start a rapport between the receptionist and MC slowly building into a friendship and then trying to woo her after that.
Kevin Bell
Actually mercenaries are a business and they are not willing to sink with you if the odds are stacked against you.
Ayden Reyes
They aren't good enough to be a mercenary.
Parker Nguyen
What happened to this one? Dropped by the scanlators?
Wyatt Gray
Yeah there's the reasons you mentioned.
Nolan Smith
That one is not serious tho, its just lactation porn
Brandon Reyes
Isn't the girl in the OP's image the vice president of the guild? Can't just get up and go like that.
Dylan Price
Why not? VP's leave multimillion dollar companies all the time. Leaving a townie adventure guild wouldn't be that big of a problem.
Andrew Reyes
Got to be Jesus with divine providence to walk up to a stranger and tell them to drop their job to follow him. And Jesus still have to promise them to be fishers of men.
Liam Scott
Is that the one where MCs home opens up to a dungeon in Fantasy Land and he finds a busty solo warrior girl?
Dylan Cox
Does Jesus count as Isekai?
Charles Lopez
>MC shows up in Isekai >Natives are shitty retards, and people in power are amoral >MC is a good guy that people like because he does good >Has cheat powers to heal people >Can outargue old scholars at the tender age of 13 >??? >MC killed by corrupt locals, but spawns a worldwide religion that tries to help
Carter James
No, it's the one where MC is a hot spring.
Jaxon Price
He went and collected his 13 NPC party member on his journey.
Camden Williams
A slave in isekai is like a sex toy that can hold a sword. Two features very crucial to the fantasy that isekai panders to.
Caleb King
The actual answer is that these writers are hacks and that slave waifus are 'in' nowadays and they want to follow the trends to hit it big.
Luke Mitchell
why not traps then
Christopher Green
>adventurers guild do that
Yes, but 99% of the time, they are just bound by a legal contract and not a magical one, that way, if the lv30 mercenary warrior wants to stop working for the dude who wishes to slay a lv99 lich with their lv 30 party, he can just walk away and leave the money, a magical contract on the other hand, would probably force him to go along with whatever retardation his "boss" is pulling that day, even if means dying for no good reason at all.
And since your average isekai mc loves pulling the dumbest stunts in the world and only win because of plot armor, you can see why no mercenary who wishes to live a long life would work with those clowns.
Jaxon Reed
Actually, now that I think about it. Why dont they just use magic contract for everything then.
Juan Jones
>Saikyou no Shokugyou Is that a harem?
Hunter Scott
We can't have too many nice things at once, that's why.
Easton Powell
There are a few, like pic related.
Ayden Cox
yes
Hunter Hall
You still have to account in the factors of maintaining a slave for such work. The huge factor of choosing between mercenaries or slaves is time. Not only that, training, provisions, growth. Long term wise, having a slave would make the idea of hiring adventurers to do your dirty work moot but not everyone has such free time or the resources to mold slaves for such work. Therefore, time and resources are a huge factor.
