Nozaki-kun was a bland, generic parody of romance shoujo manga that never stepped out from these limits, and confined them to single-line descriptions, instead of actually fleshing them out properly. It failed at being both a comedy as well as a romance.

Execution on Nozaki-kun was good. OST was great, art was excellent, and most of the jokes were actually funny. Generic doesn't feel like a valid criticism here at all; you're watching a high school slice of life anime, it only needs just a little bit of variance in concept and not much else in my opinion. Characters are common shoujo manga troupes who would've thought, but that doesn't make them bad characters.
