This is why Devilman is a tragedy built on irony. The villain could feel love he simply needed to awaken it since he was super repressed, while the hero who we can completely side with abandoned it to get revenge and ultimately doomed himself to defeat.

Just as Satan rebelled against God for being cold only to be cold himself. Satan has the luxury he could learn his lesson even if he would lose to God afterwards.
