Almost every season I just casually browse the board to get an idea for which shows are good, and just watch them. It's mostly worked in the past (Re:Zero, Made in Abyss, etc.) but sometimes it doesn't (Mawaru Penguindrum, Blend S, etc.).
So this season, I instead tried something different. I tried watching every single anime that came out this season.

And seriously, what the fuck. I'm fucking exhausted. How do you people force so much anime down your throats every season. Most of it is trash with the occasional half decent episode popping out. Not only is that a massive time investment I could be using on my backlog, but it's just plain mentally exhausting.

There are only a few dozen shows, and you don't need to watch much of most of them to figure out if they're something you like or not.
Reading Sup Forums on the other hand is a mentally exhausting time sink and I have no idea why I do it.

It's simple. I actually enjoy anime and I give everything a chance to entertain me, instead of assuming they're all trash by default.
Watching all anime is certainly not something for everyone, if you really are getting tired while doing it it's clear sign that you're forcing yourself so you should go back to picking shows up that other way.

You have to learn to tell what show won't do it for you pretty early on (the possibility of missing some gem whose greatness is only apparent almost at the end of the season is not enough to put up with the shit ton of trash that comes out, just come back to a series you drop if you see people hyping it up later). I've dropped every show so far except Kokkoku, Ito Junji Collection, Pop Team Epic and new Cardcaptor because that's all I am truly enjoying on some level. I will drop any one of these if they they can't entertain me anymore as well. I didn't even give many shows a chance because the cover and trailer already tells me I won't like it.

sometimes ill look at reviews and comment sections to get a feel if im the right audience for an anime cause its impossible to judge a book by its cover nowadays, especially with the time commitment.

keep digging through the backlog and wait to see if any of the seasonal shit is enough to grab your attention, i prefer binging in 1 sitting than wait a week an episode so this works out for me.

The best way to judge a show these days is the same as always: literally just fucking watch it. Even a single episode will do to give you an idea of what to expect, the three episodes rule is effective yes but you don't need to follow it blindly if you don't want to. "But I have no time" isn't an excuse because each full-length episode is only 24 minutes long, so all you need to do in order to finish watching an episode is not pause it to check Sup Forums every ten seconds.
Don't forget that every single person in the world other than yourself has shit taste. Stop listening to them and learn to form your own opinions.

You need to consider that most of the Sup Forumsnons who watch 15+ seasonal shows to completion are dimwitted NEETs who pride themselves on being able to spend an enourmous amount of time consuming trash entertainment. They rationalize their shiteating by calling others plebs/normies/casuals who don't actually like anime. There's also the people who speedwatch or don't pay full attention because they're doing other shit simultaneously.

I did this every season from winter 2014 to last season almost. I watched on average over 40 shows each season that were airing and still watched backlog shows. The trick is to move your sleeping schedule back 1 hour and watch a little less than 2 hours a night. I sometimes watch it while I'm eating too.

In autumn last season I tried something new where I started with 10 shows and dropped 2 shows each week like a battle royale until after a month I settled on the 2 best shows. I recommend this.

Picking shows it's actually rather simple, though it may seem a bit time consuming at first. There are about 30 new shows every season, and you can safely drop 10 because they're fujoshit. Then you have another 1-2 shoujo shows, in general those are easy drops but some turn up good so you give them around 2-3 eps. As for the other 15-20 shows airing, you give them 3 eps, unless it's complete garbage and you can instantly drop them like Ousama Game, Black Clover and Dies Irae last season.

And no, watching 15 shows a season is not that much, it's less than an hour a day in your week. Well, except if you come here to shitpost like we all do.

Finally, if you truly like anime you're searching for something fun even if it's not good, though it's okay to find flaws to the show, it gives you reasons to post in this place. It's only through watching kuso anime that you find FUN and enlightenment.

Learn how to judge an anime from the first episode or movie from the first 20 minutes. It will help a great deal. Though, some have big twists where the tone changes drastically, but that may or may not be worth spending an hour or 3+ episodes to find out.

Basically, learn what warning signs trigger you to not like something and look for those in those early eps.
