It was a meh story. It didn't really capture what Junji Ito is known for. The end short with the girl turning into a doll was a more interesting story and it didn't take 20mins.

It actually was. That's the problem with DEEN, always meh and uninspired at best. Adapting hIto would require a creative director, not sticking on adapting panels with an ok result.
