i think morikawa intended to make ippo the world champion by the end of the manga, but then he started to get old and get more and more sick, falling into depression and tought "no matter how strong you are, or who you are, you will die anyways" and reflected that into his manga, i think is his way of telling us he will soon die and he is not ready... and i dont know what's the point of writing this
