Violet Evergarden

The show looks absolutely amazing. Anyone hating on the art and/or animation is a gigantic faggot, but the story is some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen.

It's a nice show for nice people.

This is like the female version of Sousuke Sagara but we all know that FMP is far more superior than VEG

>wartime empty person looking for the definition of love
She's basically your average Sup Forumsnon trying to find comfort in iyashikei

Is horriblesubs quality a lot better than Vivid?

No, it's much worse. It's nicely animated crap

it has pretty art but I wouldn't call the animation all that good

>he could look at high quality scans of the greatest art in the world and ponder true art
>watches an adaptation of a light novel made by 40 year old japanese men that was downscaled from it's native resolution by some mexican

should I watch with cartel subs or is it better to wait for netflix subs? which one will suck less

To be fair, she is apparently a doll or robot, and those things don't initially tend to have feelings, so for her that's a legitimate and understandable statement.

to be honest, I still don't understand what this "love" thing is

HS is Netflix subs. Cartel had better phrasing but Netflix wasn't bad imo.

Will this qt be relevant?

I unironically share the same sentiment. I've lost interest in the story. I'm just enjoying the scenery/background porn.

Netflix is higher quality.

>cattleya

>Anyone hating on the art and/or animation is a gigantic faggot
The characters are very detailed but we got very little animation for a first episode Kyoani show. most of the time they just stand there like statues.
The layout/"camerawork" in the intro was pretty bad by the way. Jittery crap.

T-they'll fix the trashy boring LN! Just you wait!

It's a shame it flopped 1 episode in. Had high expectations for kyoani to make a comback

It looks good but pretty subpar for a Kyoani show. Maid Dragon looked better in my opinion
Agree about the story though.

What animation?

She is probably an "ex-gypsy" and Violet will probably learn the harsh truth of how some people in society look at them.

The OST was so fucking invasive. It is not like every frame of the anime needs to have impact.

The place looked more like a brothel than a post office.

Violet Evergarden? More like Yellow Everblur

didn't know there was already a BGOTY in this show

Whoa whoa whoa. Most of the time the filter is grey.

>It looks good but pretty subpar for a Kyoani show.
I am surprised to say that I felt the same. Especially after everyone was hyping it as "movie quality" after the pre-screenings.

It's a slideshow.

>The OST was so fucking invasive. It is not like every frame of the anime needs to have impact.
Reminds me about japanese drama shows. Where dramatic music is played almost in every scene.

I don't get how people are already saying the show is mediocre when there's only been one episode, wouldn't it be fair to give it a few more episodes?

Not exactly, but some scenes come really close to that. I feel like too much effort was made to make the image detailed, and too little to make it alive. It's often like we're looking at pretty statues.

I think people are only saying the first episode is mediocre. Keep in mind KyoAni is pretty consistent in quality, and we rarely get shows with great starts that turn bad or the reverse. So this lame start doesn't bode well for the series.

As much as Sup Forums shits on it I'd take another Maid Dragon over Hibike2 or Violet any day. Even if it wasn't perfect it was a lot of fun

>the story is some of the dumbest shit i've ever seen

You wouldn't know an award-winning material when you see it. You sir, are a cultural pleb. Friends, look at this plebian and laugh.

The visuals gave me eye cancer.

Get out of here Mung Daal!

Man, hype sure brings the worst in people.

Do you guys think the 14 episodes will cover more than the LNs?

it was a nice episode

That doesn't look good though, and no matter how much you whine it won't change anything.

Hot spring/beach episode with manservice

>Reminds me about japanese drama shows. Where dramatic music is played almost in every scene

It's like VEG is imitating real life. Wow. Such an ambitious and noble cause. Bravo VEG.

It's Kyoani-tier award winning material, which means it's bottom of the barrel.
Real LNs get kadokawa to publish them.

It's shit

>japanese drama shows
>imitating real life
How are the two related?

...

Looks better than hajimete no gal or most shows in general.
Compared to other kyoani I'd say it is also pretty decent.

>Compared to other kyoani I'd say it is also pretty decent.
No, and it had very limited animation. This was one of the lamest first episodes to come out of KyoAni in the last 5 years.

Real Friends fire their directors and turn lovable franchises like our cute animal girls into cash cows.

I've personally read the synopsis myself and i can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the most greatest writing material in recent times. You mongrels just don't comprehend. I suggest you try and pick up a book next time, okay?

>Looks better than hajimete no gal
Literally anything looks better than that animated turd, it's not a fair comparison.
As for other kyoani shows, feel free to name some.

>adamantine

Has the anime marvel crossover finally occurred?

I thought the first episode was decent but goddamn do those bright as fuck lights pull your attention away from things. I have a new level of empathy for moths.

It's set in the Runescape universe retard.

It's visually more appealing than Clannad, Kanon, K-on, Lucky Star, Maid dragon and Air for ones.
But it depends a lot on the mood of the show, and I think violet's filters and animation fits the first episode.

Yeah, fuck Hajimete no Gal, that ugly show. You guys should give VEG a break, it's a good show that'll grow on you. Try rewatching one time. Hell, try rewatching it 2 times. Watch it as many times until you feel you like it.

I just finished the first episode.

Did I like it?

Enjoyed it, story seems interesting, art is sasuga/10

Most of the casuals can't handle any sort of introduction and exposition at all anymore. They want every series to cater to them with flashy first episodes and hooks, only to diss it later on for not living up to the pilot episode.

>it's better than [lists shows from the 2000s]
Quite telling.

>VEG is trying Marvel to give marvel a subtle nod with this subliminal message

Truly, VEG is a show that connects worlds.

Having a white filter over every single scene to the point every single moment of the episode looks washed out is blatantly terrible.

I think I am just going to avoid these threads...

Well, you asked me to compare it to other kyoani shows. Now after I did that, you want to narrow it down?
I think it looks good. But it doesn't seem to be a show for everyone, just like how I despise bakemonogatari but some other praise it like the second coming of jesus.

The problem is the introduction and exposition felt a bit...off? It's like parts that were actually interesting were rushed past while things the show shouldn't dwell on got a decent amount of time.
It's not even like the pacing was bad really it's more like it was wrong or something. If certain elements aren't revisited in the future in much greater detail I'll feel pretty let down.

This post gave me cancer.

Apply cold water to that burn.

>Anime set in a post office
Nothing Sup Forums says will kill my excitement.

>Anime set in a post office
You work in one?

Oh look, another one who doesn't appreciate real art goes away. Boo hoo. Baww.

Old post offices are underrated for comfy. Good taste.

No but the postal service is really interesting to me. Especially in time periods like when VEG is set.

clearly this is the world of Sword Coast after some technological advancements and magic starts to fade

>you asked me to compare it to other kyoani shows.
I didn't. Also, a sensible comparison would be to recent KyoAni shows, as the studio (and industry as a whole) has changed in the last 10 years. When you compare like with like, VEGep1 doesn't fare that well.

Being better made from a production values standpoint than say Clannad's first episode is a low bar to pass at this point.

Have you ever had a revelation? That moment when you experience a sudden and complete flash of understanding? You suddenly realize that you've been walking around half-blind, missing so much of the world around you, but unaware. Ignorant of all that you were missing.

That's what Violet Evergarden was for me. I could feel my heart open up, as sharp and clear as ice cracking. I began to sob. In fact, I cried so hard, for so long, that I completely missed that last twenty minutes of the first episode. So I rewatched it. And then again. I watched the first episode eight full times before I felt I had a fundamental understanding of its depth. And then I watched it another ten just to make sure.

Violet Evergarden is my Revelatory Text. My New Testament, my Quran, my Pale Blue Dot. I will never again look at the world with tired jaded eyes. Better yet, I'll never look at myself that way either.

>combined smell of old wood, fresh paper and delicate perfume
truly, the comfiest thing

Keep in mind that Sup Forums is full of sensationalist morons that get caught up in hype and this one was hyped to the stratosphere.

Yeah people are being pretty unfair. This is the most underrated show of the season. Even when it was screened on the theaters, it needed more attention.

WE DON'T BOW IN EUROPE REEEEEE

Is this pasta from r/anime? So cringe.

pasta worthy

Thank you sir. I shall toast you a drink across the internet with this compliment. I am hitting the computer screen with my wine glass.

It's not set in Europe. It's an Occidentalist work. You know, like Puccini's Madame Butterfly is an Orientalist one. The nips aren't actually interested in portraying European society accurately. They reinterpret it through their own experience.

>I didn't.
Well, maybe you aren't the one I replied too. I did mention kobayashi and K-on though, both from within the last ten years. Tamako market, while being funny at times, didn't exactly look all that good too. I like the style of Violet compared to other kyoani shows. That is all.

>VEG is Japanizing the European culture with this masterpiece

Truly, VEG is the show that's changing the fabric of culture itself.

I know >MAL and all but the show went from an 8.91 before airing to an 8.82 now and it keeps dropping.

>WE DON'T BOW IN EUROPE REEEEEE
We did use to do it, but not in that fashion. Women usually knelt a little bit lowering their head at the same time, while men but their hand on their stomach, bowing slightly.

>series director is the same as beyond the boundary director. Welp now I know why some of Sup Forums hates it and I like it.

>A Netflix Original Series
>They just paid the studio to put that there.
>The anime will be produced even without them.

I can't wait for the fucking normalfags from Sup Forums to use this to say "HUE HUE EVEN THE WEST CAN MAKE ANIME."

Are they going to uncensor the blur in BD release

>8.91 before airing
Sasuga MAL.

>caring about ratings before the show is released
Those are all hype fags

Pingu got to rank 2 i believe. Never trust mal ratings. People will purposing put 1/10 or 10/10

>Women usually knelt a little bit lowering their head at the same time
user... it's called courtsey

Would be nice if Violet did the men's bow (because she was a soldier) instead of just a standard Japanese bow.

>You're burning
I hope she brought BURN HEALS

Why is no one surprised seeing her cybernetic hands? This is supposed to be early 20th century.

>courtsey
It still bowing even if it is courtesy. I already said it isn't in the same fashion. Only that we did do it.

she still knows she's a woman, though, so maybe it would feel more out of place?

So they made the super soldier kids fight to the death? Not a lot of return of investment
