Just saw the first episode. You fuckers lied to me. It looked jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Where did filters meme come from? Everything was top-notch in the first episode. Animation, character designs, art direction, soundtrack, voice acting, story, setting and characters. Especially the setting. Any anime not set in a highschool, magic (harem) school or isekai is always a breath of fresh air. It's met my expectations to say the least. What's your opinion on the first episode? Besides muh filters and muh blur.

Your efforts are admirable but there's a lot of triggered armchair critics that hate KyoAni and successful productions out there right now. By sheer volume any praise for the show is going to be drowned out by their sperging. I'll admit there were a few BUDGET cuts and animation techniques scattered throughout the episode but they were completely overshadowed by everything OP mentioned. Really looking forward to the rest of this show. Threads are just gonna suck though.

Sounds about right. What's the problem? There's very little to criticise so far, and obviously the hatred it got is overblown and undeserved. It's like hating on, idk, Spirited Away? Everyone has their own taste, interests and opinions, and not everyone is going to love it, but you'd have to be reaching quite harding to hate on that movie and pretend like it's terrible.

Perhaps there are better examples than Spirited Away, but you get my point.

there definitely are. VEG is visually uninspired, even without its filters, horrible use of DoF and unreasonably muted colors. not even gonna start on the completely overblown amount of acoustic detailing. they dont know what subtle audio direction is and had to shoehorn some background song into most of the scenes, cranked to max volume as well. the first episode already gave plenty room for critique my friend.

I don't remember the sountrack ever being obtrusive or impairing any of the scenes. Care to provide a timestamp? The audio direction seemed on-point to me and one of the best things about the first episode.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking of when I saw that image, like some autist director at KyoAni having a brilliant idea of slapping filters on everything and the animators just look at each other awkwardly.

I haven't watched the episode yet but if the worst you can say about it is that it is "visually uninspired" and the music is too loud then it must have been pretty good.
