i have seen that comentary everywhere countless times by now, even by friends outside the internet. is it really bad? because i thought the art is incredibly stylized and some shots were just gorgeous with yuasa direction. you can tell a lot of heart was put into this adaptation

I actually haven't watched much anime in the past 3 years or so. I've been mostly living on a strictly book-based diet with a touch of full feature movie here and there, but I haven't watched a full anime series in quite a while.

I decided to watch this becuase it was recommended to me by two friends of mine, they said I would love.

The art quality is non-consistent because they ran into budget problems during making it.

Dude there is an animation rule called the squash and strech that basically consists of going off model for the sake of expressivity, movement, and impact.
People have been going off model on purpose basically since the very beginnings of animation.

I am well aware, but modern anime goes to extremes that goes far beyond single frames of squash and stretch here and there and becomes blatantly off-model even during long stretches of animation, and it's obvious that the animator is just blazing through individual frames to complete the entire scene quickly, a problem no doubt attributed to how much work animators have to do on various shows every single season, to many shows and to few animators to do them all, it's the modern problem, and I don't appreciate that people like Yuasa are considered the fix to this problem, they're fucking not, they're making shit worse by making this sloppy method of animation acceptable more and more.

Now I know how HIV, Hepatitis and the drug-resistant strain of gonorrhea spread in developed countries in this day and age.
