Flip Flappers

What went wrong?
It looked like it was going to be amazing, but it just fell flat in the end.

>exploring thought wonderland scenarios
AOTY proof that anime isn't dead
>becomes mahou shoujo
ok, it's not that creative but it's still go-
>generic Illuminati style ending
well at least it has yuri

The plot was entirely metaphorical, just like everything else in the series

You unironically didn't get it

Mimi

Ending was rushed and the depths of despair weren't deep enough.
Start didn't move plot fast enough, too much episodic style stuff.
Also loli character was absolutely irrelevant.

Episodic shit killed all the audience early, by the time the plot started no one was left so they fucked up the ending too.

The lead writer got taken off the project halfway through. Her last episode was the sixth one which you'll note was also the last great one.

>ended with a peck on the cheek
Not even good yuri

>no cockona post yet
Severely dissapointed.

...

cockona poster is too busy in the Darlifra thread

>no sodium vapor lamps
Flip Flap is dead

>no thomasson hyperart
Flip Flap is over

They turned Cocona's mom into a raging sperg and stopped having fun in Pure Illusion

Who wrote the last five episodes anyway? No credits on anidb

>It looked like it was going to be amazing
lol

both halves of the show were for different audiences

Hes lying user, the whole story was planned from the beggining, the other director just wanted zombies instead of mechas in a particular episode and did it in a playful way

G̴̨͈͓͔̣̥̠̱̝̙͍̺̮͔̀͟o͙̙̹̻̳̳̪̥̠̖̳̯͕̱̦͓͝͝͡k̴̝̬̟̬̭̻̭̬̺̤̙͔̥̜͞i̛͔̪͇̭̺̼̜̻͉̜̝̩̪͘͠g̵̶̛̛͈͔̘̦̖͇̱͈̭̰͔̙͖͖̥̠͖͝ę̷͟͏͕̫͙̜̳̬͈̗̩̯̮̘͉n͏̷̨͝͏̗̦͕̘̠̣͎̬̟̠̞̼̟̞̼ỳ͠͏͖̣͕̭̗͎͉̜̤̳̼̜͝ͅo̷͏̗̱̰̹̭̖̳̥͉̫͉̟̹̠͇͢ͅͅͅ

>but it just fell flat in the end.
Well that just like your opinion man.

It was a masterpiece.

You are my Cocona

You didn't write that song.

What do sodium vapor lamps have to do with flipflaps? I'm thinking of buying one for my hobby soon

Scriptwriter change after episode 6

>the whole story was planned from the beggining

I don't buy that. There was too much foreshadowing that never paid off or was never explained. Everything to do with Iro for instance. She was heavily implied to have some connection to Pure Illusion from the start, but after her episode she was just relegated to the background.

Major continuity error in the first episode.

It's called deconstructing tropes

Being one of the maybe ~10 people left on Sup Forums who enjoyed and loved it all the way through is a strange, sad feeling.

I'm sorry user. I wish I could have loved it all the way through.

I'm still here and I own the BDs.

Well I just realized I'm going to be buying a mercury vapor light, not a sodium one, so I'm back to not caring

They fucked up Papika and Mimi's characters. Papika was fucked up hard. All while focusing too much on Yayaka, an important character who is, however, NOT the MAIN character.

The Freudian stuff is contrived. The episodic adventures were fine as they still learn and grow through each time they go into PI, but nope we have to make it all psychological and wonky.

They didn't know what to do with the twins and loli.

Animation quality dropped hard near the end. Like embarrassingly hard. It looks like pure garbage compared to the first episodes.

Basically they tried too hard and it shows.

...

Yayacuck

>the way they took that cute scene in Episode 3 and turned it into a catchphrase

So much of the second half was literal fanfiction-tier

>Papika was fucked up hard.

I felt the same but I don't know how else you can really do "tomboyish feral child realizes she is actually an adult scientist" without losing the character. I really missed classic Papika in the later episodes. Her character was a massive part of the series' charm.

To me she seemed a lot like an actual true-to-life example of a feral child raised in isolation from society. When it turned out she was just a person whose body was inexplicably reverse-aged that felt like such a cop out.

>They didn't know what to do with the twins and loli.

That whole thing was downright embarrassing. They had so much potential, creepy little test tube kids or something. But nope, they all became irrelevant, and the third one was irrelevant-on-arrival.

i understood everything about it, I just dont think they executed the last half nearly as well

Hey, I'm still with you,

I also loved it in its entirety and wouldn't change a thing

literally turned into yuyushiki

I am genuinely baffled by people who found the ending to flipflap flat

It was extremely good.

How did this go from cute yuri to creepy age gap auntcest?

They didn't have a real plan to wrap things up. Running out of budget didn't help either.

I really felt that writer change towards the end.

>starts off cute romance between young loner girl and feral pixie dream girl
>looks like cute coming of age story complete with magical first love
>whoops, never-mind, Papikana is actually friends with Cocona's parents
>turns out she already lived this life of magical adventure with Cocona's mom

Also
>Cocona never called Salt father/dad/papa
I will never not be mad

One thing I did think was cool in the later episodes was the initial scene where Cocona got her Pure Illusion powers and covered the KKK guys in flowers.

That was Mimi

I loved it all the way though as well.

I feel like there is a contingent that is salty it won the aoty poll and plays up the "what went wrong" angle.

Agreed. Salt's PI is one of my favourites and the final surfboard scene is my favourite moment of the series.

dropped it 2 minutes in ill never find out

The last 4 episodes.

"I found it flat/it didn't work" on Sup Forums is code for "It wasn't what I wanted."

It needed a kiss

I don't know really, I liked it

>Cockona

No, I'm not there at all.

It's in my top 10 of all time. I watched it 4 times beginning-to-end in the span of a week and loved it even more with each watch. It's a genuine 9/10. Sup Forums is just being post-contrarian per usual.

I bought the OST

I'm sure there are more than ten of us. Fifteen, maybe.
