Was he a Mary Sue?

Was he a Mary Sue?

No, he lost.

his 14 year old adopted son could kick his ass

Mary Sue's don't suffer tragedies

No, he saw his friends die one by one, saw his son join the military and risk his life against the most ancient conspiracy to ever exist, and saw his nation succumb to its own corruption in the face of the enemy which was its complete antithesis.

He's like the opposite of Honor Harrington.

He was the best tactician in the series and everyone sucked his dick, but he fucked up multiple times and was too passive, he ended up constrained by the limits placed on him by the Alliance and ended up achieving nothing in the historical scale despite being outstanding individual, thus putting another of the system's faults on display/

No, a genius but not a mary-sue

He didn't join the military because he saw his friends die, where are you getting this from? He got into the military to make money and get access to their libraries to study history because he was poor and in debt after his died

no he wasnt, he and reinhard were equals on battlefield tactics but they were different in reinhards genius and yangs practically encyclopaedia knowledge of history

No one said he joined the military because he saw his friends die.

>He got into the military to make money
He didn't. He was forced into it because he couldn't afford the university he was in, so he would either join the military and study for free or pay for his education, which he couldn't.

>yang and reinhard were equals on battlefield tactics
Reinhardt controls all of the Empires forces, has 15 times more people than Yang and can chose the time and place of battle. Yang has a ragtag group consisting of a few fleets and still blows past fucking everything. Yang won their showdown.

Mary Sues tend to not lose and die.

>character has obvious flaws
>h-he's a Mary Sue!

Yang legit won when they were equally matched and Reinhard had to be bailed by the best girl.
Reinhard was the better overall leader but on the battlefield Yang was superior.

no he didnt, he got BTFO by reinhards tactic in their last battle where he sent small fleets to attack yangs force after baiting him to charge his flagship where the fleets would let yang pass through then split off to the flanks fall back to the rear and reform then repeat ad infinitum he the only reason that didnt defeat him was because julian saw through it he was literally saved by a 15 year old kid

see
maybe you kids should actually watch the show before commenting on something you clearly have no idea what you're talking about

Julian is the mary sue.

They are when they are alive

Are the Gaiden worth watching? I heard they were pretty mediocre.

>flaws are all secretly good traits that just make him more relatable

Yang's side wasn't exactly losing before Julian figured out Reinhard's tactic. Reinhard was about to be killed when the order to cease fire came.

Watch Hundred Billion stars for avesome Rosen Ritters moments and a couple of nice battles. And maybe Spiral labyrinth for a bit more of FPA perspective. Everything else is just Reinhard & Kircheis wacky adventures in the world of nasty nobles.

I feel bad for stopping my viewing of the main series because I learned I was missing a gaiden and set out to find it then got sidetracked.

Please don't do it. Gaidens are only for those who finished the main series and absolutely desperate for a bit more content.

2late. I already forgot what elisode I was on. I think the scouts/spies had just made it to Earf a few episodes before I quit like two, three years ago.

Watch it for fanservice

Completed

saved

In the end, he was just another victim of the Opioid Epidemic, OP.

No, Yang wasn't invincible and he's had his fair share of tragedies/ issues. Yang was an incredibly skilled man who had some luck.

And all of them together should be /y/

Even girls?

Of course. They'll represent /y/ anons

Needs a "if only Kircheis were here" pointing to his schlong

Did striped pajamas finally go out of style in Japan by the end of 90s?

>never tries to reform the government
>always fails to convince his superiors and is ridden by guilt because of it
>feels guilty for making Julian a soldier
>doubts himself, including leaving Reinhard alive
No. In the course of the series, Yang makes many mistakes. He certainly is a battlefield prodigy, and a good man, but he is far from being perfect.

>doubts himself
*doubts his actions

I think you need to see doctor ASAP.

The more people accuse characters of being a Mary Sue, the less of a bite it has as a criticism for me. It's almost as if you guys think geniuses who worked hard at developing one or two skills don't exist, and that it wouldn't be most authors' priority to follow the tale of these genius characters as opposed to some underdog story or whatever you want instead.

There are only three types of posts about Yang on Sup Forums
>Was he a Mary Sue?
>Was he a militarist who killed millions for nothing?
>Was he a pure waifu?

Yang just started wearing pajamas when he bacame an admiral, it's one of privilegies. When you just a minor officer you had to dress up faster.

There's one more perspective. The correct one.
>was he /ourguy/?

They are only good and more relatable to the viewer, that's the opposite of a mary sue.

>Was he a Mary Sue?

As others have mentioned, he made mistakes.

But also, consider this: even assuming he was disgustingly perfect and a Mary Sue, would this be wrong, or unrealistic?

The core behind LoGH was that you had two geniuses at odds with each other in an imperfect universe. Both are quite young, but not high-school young. And they are most certainly not meant to be self-inserts, or at least not meant for the audience to self-insert into.

I´m sure that throughout human history, we could find a number of figures quite similar to Yang and Reinhard, and accusing them of being Mary Sues would make no sense given the nature of history, and of the narration and plot in LoGH. LoGH is not about power fantasies at all.
