so Sup Forums definition of edgy is everything that goes out of the kawaii/fanservice/slice of life/basic ass anime realm?, or im i wrong?
So Sup Forums definition of edgy is everything that goes out of the kawaii/fanservice/slice of life/basic ass anime...
Close. it's "anything I don't like"
you right nigga
This shit is kawaii and fanservicy as it gets
Edgy is in the eye of the beholder.
...
yes
furthermore, anything even slightly ambitious is automatically called "pretentious", regardless of it's actual quality or depth
that does not mean their taste is not shit user
Hivemind blah blah blah
My definition is anything that is mature for matures sake, and not for realism or realistic reasons.
Elfen lied is edgy (still got a soft spot for it tho)
Perfect blue is mature. Not that all things need to be mature but you get what im saying.
>implying edgy automatically means something bad
Hellsing was edgy but still entertaining show.
/thread
>My definition is anything that is mature for matures sake, and not for realism or realistic reasons.
not everything has to be realistic either, or else anime/manga would get very boring wouldn't it?
Made in Abyss is edgy
Devilman Crybaby is not
No it doesn't, but if it exploits gore and sex it means it's edgy .Don't know why it's hord to accept, you can still enjoy it
The proper use of edgy as in someone who tries too hard to look cool is not used. Instead it has been misused generally as meaning grimdark.
If the 'mature themes' lacks realism its edgy. Edgy is not bad, I think this is the main problem people seem to have with the term. The Hellsing OVA's are edgy as fuck, they are also fun as fuck. Edgy can be done right and done wrong, so can anything. Perfect blue isnt edgy because of its realism, its understandable and its gore and sexual themes have purpose in the narrative besides titillation and shock value.
The opposite of this, is what im saying.
in order to be edgy you have to take yourself seriously, which Hellsing absolutely didn't
Made in Abyss isn't edgy, just dark
this
grimdark done badly comes off as edgy, too bad people will throw the word at just about anything
Yeah, get ready for the storm of people rushing in to yell at you pretending to be oldfags though OP
You're wrong, Akame ga Kill does kawaii/fanservice/basic ass and it's still edgy as fuck.

this
im ready user
did i say that any series with gore/"edgy" things was good?, also its not "edgy" its just plain bad faggot
OK Pablo
Is it funny because it would mainly be the south american crowd that would watch and love Crybaby?
Graphic violence has been in anime for 40-50 years.
Front frontal sex has been in anime for 40-50 years.
Open Homosexuality has been in anime for 20-30 years.
Vague barely related to the actual christian mythos stories have been in anime for 20~ years.
Absolutely nothing about Devilman is new, fresh, original or interesting. You like it because other people who watched it on Netflix liked it out of pure ignorance about these shows being dime a dozen in anime and manga.
It's not shit, but it's -nothing- special.
Hellsing was hella edgy. I don't even think anime trying to be edgy is a bad thing, though. It's just bad when that is all it really has going for it.
Everything new is well forgotten old.
Devilman is something we hadn't had for years
>implying originality is something desireable and an objective mark of quality
Not true, warau salesman wasn't edgy and did that.
I generally define it as when an anime or show is trying too hard to be dark or violent. hence I try not to use it much, also because it's became a buzzword that most use as what you described.
thats why i said Sup Forums my definition of edgy is what said, and yes its a buzzword now, hence this thread, i might check warau selesman, i have seen it a lot but never figured out the name of it.
Anything is edgy as long as you get replies for shitting on it.
the dubs never lie
>Front frontal sex
What position is that?
These dubs do
God Perfect Blue is so fucking good.
Even though the other girl is kind of a shitty retarded character, I love how broad the theme of identity and people pushing their images on to you is. It applies to so much more than the "idols with creepy stalkers" that normalfags see the movie as.
there i said it dubs dont lie
