It's the year Two Thousand and Eighteen

>It's the year Two Thousand and Eighteen
>Some people are still shitting on this average series calling it "the worst thing ever made"

Why did this anime in particular managed to get such a dedicated following of people with a hateboner for it?

It's painfully mediocre and mainstream. Most shitty anime doesn't get a lot of attention so they stay under the radar. The only ones that people know about are where it's so bad it's funny and those are kept separate from what people call actually bad because they find entertainment value in it.

Because most people watched this show when they were 13-15 thinking it was great just because of its setting. Then 4-5 years later these people are a little older and a little smarter and they realized how stupid the plot was and how much potential was wasted.
Of course, weeb youtubers all bandwagoning on the new trend of riping this show to shreds didn't help it either.
Some of the hate also comes from the fact how popular SAO became. Many people are simply mad that this piece of shit created a massive franchise with videogames, multiple seasons of anime and movies while many of their favorite shows who they seem (and probably righfully so) as much better than SAO often fail to even get a continuation.

The show is still popular and relevant, fedora tippers will continue to be triggered for years to come. Alicization soon baby.

You have no idea what you're talking about, tons of generic shonen anime get put into mainstream media in the western world. SAO is no worse than 99% of them including DBZ.

Yes and tons of generic shonen aren't anywhere near the level of popularity of SAO. A show getting dubbed and aired doesn't suddenly mean it's reached the popularity ceiling.

I agree. I love McDonalds, Call of Duty, and Pewdiepie too

The majority of anime is shit. SAO might be average but it's better than 70% of anine. It's popular though so that's the reason it gets the attention of turbonerds who all think they're Roger Ebert or something

>mediocre, grade-school level of writing web novel
>mediocre, grade-school level of writing light novel
>mediocre, grade-school level of writing anime
>gets massive following because of contrived drama
>followers praise it as the best thing to ever grace the Earth
>"Why do you guys hate it so much?"
Because it's not good.

>Because it's not good
Just like the majority of anime in general.

Lots of impressionable normies watched during a time when anime was rapidly becoming more mainstream, meaning that it was babby's first anime for a lot of people with loud, bad opinions.

>but it's better than 70% of anine
No, it really isn't.
70% of anime this season is better than SAO, just like in the previous season, and the seasons before it.

What's your point?

even "PornoComic Master"

Because if you took a literature 101 course in college, you would know the storytelling is shit. LNfags knew this before the anime aired and was deemed mediocre from hence forth. Only retards autists, 12 year olds, and newfags loved it and screeched to high heavens thinking its was the first trapped in a game anime and regard as a masterpiece.

Digibro

I'm interested to know; how would you break down its "badness" if you had to compose a literary critique of it? I mean, since lit seems like your cup of tea and all.

>any LN writing
>literature
I mean you're not wrong but this way of looking at it is silly. It's funny how people say NORMIES LIKE IT when this place strives to not give a fuck about what other people like or don't like

>this thread
It's always the same generic image with generic filename that was probably pulled from Google in the OP
The people replying probably make the point of replying every time this thread is posted

>most people watched this show when they were 13-15
I call bullshit on this. Most people are not 13-15.

Sup Forums and especially Sup Forums posters tend to be extremely concious of what other people and communities think, it seems. I figure it's the combination of low self-confidence and thin skin.

People watched it around the time it aired because it quickly became a massive thing and believe it or not, for many teenagers it was one of the first anime they watched.

>a dedicated following of people with a hateboner for it?
because it killed .hack

To be fair, as much as SAO is a mistake the people who cry about the show's lack of quality are just as annoying.

I'm impressed no one has gotten killed for liking SAO yet. People who enjoy filth do deserve a death sentence or something.

I thought it was great until he woke up from the game and it turned into "My Little Sister Is Actually My Cousin But I Have A Wife Not Really Oops Damaged Goods"

Because SAO makes people irrationally assmad

.hack killed itself.

It had way too much media ranging from barely above average to dumpster fire just as bad as SAO (Member Roots and Legend of the Twilight; moreso the latter)

It's very bad, not just average. It's not even close to the worst anime I've seen though.
The reason why people still shit on it is because it's still popular.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Pewds.

I thought it was well established that anime YouTubers caused the massive levels of backlash against sao. Every dude had a video on sao, and for a few years it was basically an easy way to get views and bring more attention to an otherwise pretty mediocre show.

It's not like sao was the first or last hype show to end up being bad.

Fuck that mothers basement faggot is still doing sao videos.
