But never watched gaiden and want to do it this time.

When it's the best moment to do it? After finishing the main serie? Before episode 82? At the current moment that I am (ep.54)?

Finish main series. After that obligatorily watch "Golden Wings". Then watch Gaidens (after GW they won't be looking that bad)

As for the order you watch them, the original release was in non-chronological order

The BD rips rearranged them to be in chronological order which makes it flow a lot better despite it switching from the modern to old animation between arcs

Lets go the way of western animation remakes. Change a few characters from men to women (I suggest Dusty, Murai, Mashengo and Linz). Change a few characters from white to brown (for example, Julian, Bucick and maybe Mittermeyer, since he is a commoner). Add LGBT representation (apply to some background charcaters who doesn't matter anyway, like Oberstein's secretary)
