In the early days of North American colonization, the Ohio country between the Ohio River and Lake Erie was contested by the English, French, Japanese, and native Indian tribes. Where as the Japanese colonial possessions of Tario and Chigan eventually became the possessions of the British as 'Ontario' and 'Michigan', Ohio (the Land of Good Mornings) remained the same.

Japan ceded its colonial ambitions in North America during the French & Indian War. This is also the era when French Maids were introduced into popular Japanese culture.
