You should really play the VN, the anime cut out a lot for the sake of being 1-cour.
I didn't get it.
It's the best KEY work.
The film was far better. Focuses predominantly on 3 characters giving it a much better sense of focus.
It has a wide appeal.
It's in the bottom 10 of the ~1600 things I've watched over the last 10 years. Truly dire.
First 6 episodes i still undestood then the second half was like "waats happening?"
OP and ED are GOAT. The summer scenery makes it a really comfy watch during wintertime.
Doesn't it have two seasons? Hmm, i could be wrong though.
Ahhh, nvm. That was an OVA or something i was thinking about.
It was the only time besides Planetarian that Key didn't pull any punches.
Kyoani BTFO by Toei.
ayyyy
Rewrite is KEY's best work, because they outsourced the actual writing to people who know what they're doing.
Rewrite sucked. It was one big mess from the very start. The ONLY thing redeeming about it was Kagari's taut flat chest.

I liked it. It has really enthralling atmosphere and music
inb4:
>A FUCKING CROW
First anime to make me cry.
I was a kid back then and have no idea what is going on but the atmosphere really got to me and I fell into a weak of depression
I really wish that there was more than simply the 1 cour... Really sad. ;_;
(You) tried
This is an Air thread, retard.
filthy secondary detected.
I miss Tomoko Kawakami.
Toei had better visuals and storytelling but I prefer Kyoani version simply because of the atmosphere. There was really a sense of mystery and drama behind a facade of playful children
Toei's setting was just a normal generic town and town's folks
I'm not even Japanese and I still get an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for my childhood summer vacations whenever I watch/read Air.
I don't remember liking the tv anime much aside from the parts in the Heian period. I watched the Toei movie recently and it got me good, though. Misuzu is an angel.
The sweetest autist.
>Toei's setting was just a normal generic town and town's folks
Did you even watch the film? It had an excellent atmosphere and Dezaki invested a lot of time in emphasizing it, even with the story's fast pace. I'm not saying one is better than the other in this regard, but to say the film's setting was generic is blatantly wrong.
Having the better soundtrack also helped:

I'll never forgive the movie for not having more tracks from the original. Especially for leaving out Natsukage.

I cried my eyes out back in 2004. But in retrospect the film was better.
Who do I have to pay to see the game with redrawn artwork?
Not really.
Toei's script on the show was pretty much normal anime conversations complete with an ecchi joke featuring Misuzu's mother, whom, Misuzu hangs out with real good.
In Kyoani, the girls discusses their set theme with questions about various topics and the philosophy regarding their own challenges in life. Misuzu in particular had heavy focus on the concept of flight and making friends. Then, her relationship with her mother was pretty much spot on regarding their conflict wherein Haruko avoids Misuzu as much as possible.
The scene where Yukitto scowls at her for making the child suffer due to neglect alone was real good.
Toei's version was so much easier to understand because of its simplicity but Kyoani's version is still more respectful to the theme at hand
The show was okay, but the 2 OVAs(air in summer) still remain 2 of the best episodes of anime I've ever watched, love them
I've always loved the atmosphere of KyoAni's Key series. Ishihara is an underrated director, his style is simple yet he builds up the location and characters so well. It's a shame he doesn't do VN adaptations anymore.
She truly is!
Then explain why he utterly failed to get the pacing right.
The sky and the concept of flying was more of a motif in the game. The real theme was motherhood.
You Kyoani fanboys will dig to no end.
Nobody but you give a shit about things like that, even though Kyoani's TV series is an incoherent, inconsistent mess. So was Air in Summer, I bet you're stupid enough to defend that too.
By having be 1-cour long. Nobody even remembers the other girls thanks to it.
I am not a Kyoani fan though.
Also, Air TV is pretty much more popular than the movie so yeah. I guess people do care
Get your studio wars shit out of here.
>I am not a Kyoani fan though.
Sure, idiot.
>Also, Air TV is pretty much more popular than the movie so yeah. I guess people do care
Popular with fanboys like yourself, yes.
While I really like the anime, also read the VN, I feel liek they should have cut the other routes, thought 12 episodes with just mizusu probably wouldn't have worked.
That's what we have Kanna for.
The movie was äêsŧhĕțĩc
Bopping Misuzu on the head should be a crime.
A CRIME!
She is a slut.
>Misuzu slowly withers away from an incurable illness and dies in the summer
>Tomoko Kawakami dies from ovarian cancer in the middle of June
I don't know if this should be considered spooky or heartbreaking.
Key's comfiest work. I liked the VN, though I feel that they should have removed Kano and Minagi and focused more on Haruko and Kanna's routes.
As for the show, story-wise I thought Kyoani did fine considering the fact that they were trying to cram all the routes into 1-cour. Animation and atmosphere-wise, they really captured the overall comfy atmosphere of the VN. I also think they did a good job with Haruko's route near the end of the show. Haven't watched the movie yet because I didn't like the animation.
I hope Summer Pockets recaptures the atmosphere of Air.
I enjoyed the air in summer OVAs much better. I didn't really get what the TV show was trying to do. It just kind of fell flat at the end.
Summer Pockets looks like the most generic trash moege imaginable. What the fuck, Key.
>tfw they make finally the characters semen demon's and it's going to be all-ages.
The writers have worked on some pretty good nakige so I'm looking forward to it. Who knows, it could end up the next Koikake kek
How did I not know about these
Thanks lad
Excellent post
Too much drama in a short span. Maybe with 26 episodes...
I really don't care for Key's current stuff, in all honesty. They probably couldn't capture the atmosphere they made in Kanon/Air/Clannad if they tried.
After Story has the best adapted character design of all Key anime.
You think Sekai Project or someone will license Air at some point? I really want to read the new Hatsuzora no Sho arc.
I truly hope so.
>Gahh she's beautiful.
They'd probably have to redraw it if they wanted decent sales in other countries. Maybe for the 20th anniversary?
It was directed by Dezaki, right?
We're only missing that and Kanon, though they're also the oldest works by Key. It's not impossible but also not likely--at least not before they license Summer Pockets, we get news about Angel Beats and Rewrite's status, and Maeda dies of heart failure.
Yes. He also did the Clannad Movie before the TV series came out.
In hindsight, now that makes it all too hard to do a rewatch during the summer months, so sadly I have to swap this series with it's successor Kanon during then. She gave those two, and CLANNAD some depth of character and I will miss her for that.
Maeda is next this coming summer. Screencap this.
They both have sizable fanbases that would happily buy the game, so it can't be that unlikely, can it? And it's not like Key or Hinoue herself are delusional about the quality of her old work, right? They'd be open to the possibility of redrawing it, r-right?
Hinoue has gotten worse though.
You sure about that?
...
She makes Misuzu look chubby these days, but it's way better than stuff like
why is she holding a dildo?
Thats so fucking gorgeous.
Giant dildos once walked the land long ago. Isn't there something romantic about that? They used to be everywhere, but now they're all gone.
Not likely until Maeda dies and we can get a Maeda Memorial Box released in June. Also, Air recently get an "updated" release on Vita. Emphasis on the quotation marks because they didn't change much. The artwork still holds up today imo. It just needs a resolution bump. prot.co.jp
Air (TV) was unironically Kino
The file name clearly said Movie though.
Air (TV) was unironically Kino
Post some screenshots then.
>kagari

>rewrite

I wish. Someday mai waifu will get her own anime!
I don't think it aged well at all. Wonky faces and anatomy will stay wonky even in HD.
...
That's more of a "problem" of Hinoue that she never ended up "fixing" throughout the years. I really think it her art style its own charm. It's like Takeuchi with Saberface, except substitute it with autism.
She tried emulating her older style way back in 2007 with this and it came out looking way nicer than her actual stuff from the late 90s/early 2000s. Sadly she doesn't seem capable of pulling it off anymore besides the coloring if this is anything to go by
I still don't get why they didn't animate it at a native HD resolution if they were gonna go for a BD release just a year later.
Film > TV
Reminder that Natsukage is STILL Key's best character theme song aside from Nagisa.
Reminder that a variation of Natsukage almost made it into the Little Busters VN and was subsequently used in the TV adaption. youtube.com
>shamelessly recycling your best work to elicit some easy feels in an inferior game
Nice track but I'm glad they didn't use it.
TV is superior. VN is best.
Nobody asked you, kyoani fanboy.
Introduction episodes filtered the fuck out of me. At least I tried.
it's probably perfect
I didn't even know she died, there goes my whole day, and probably life
Honestly the leapfrog in tech between 2005 and 2006 was insane, Blur-ray was a thing in 2006 but stuff was really tailor made for it until like 2008 at the earliest, 3 years doesn't sound like a lot but it was probably the craziest tech push the world ever saw in the shortest amount of time, a lot of stuff suffered from being quickly outdated during this period.
What's the best way to watch the film? The 720p rip?
It's probably a bad upscale. I'd go for the DVD.
