Thoughts on Perfect Blue?
Thoughts on Perfect Blue?
cartoon kino
...
Better than Black Swan, Persona, and Suspiria combined.
what the fuck was even going on?
Fantastic. Saw it on late night tv when I was 15, been a degenerate weeb ever since.
How did Kon do it? How did he create so many kinos?
Other than that one scene, there was no good reason for this to be animated, and even that was a huge stretch effects-wise.
you mean the rape?
*wasn't
...
What reason do you really need other than it's what the director wanted?
I know "Lynchian" is a meme but PB is the closest thing I've seen to a David Lynch film not directed by David Lynch.
No, the skipping doppelganger sequence.
less blue than it is perfect.
Seriously, can somebody explain to me wtf was even happening in perfect blue?
Burnout plus stalking leading to major paranoia and schizophrenia. Yeah it was a great mind fuck.
animu singers old manager hag couldnt get over her own failed career and also got pissed about girl giving up singing for acting so she hired that one ugly dude to kill animu singer turned actress and finally tried to kill her himself , finally ending up in a asylum
*to kill her herself
Yes
>Kino until the ending
I mean what the fuck, she visits her deranged manager in the crazy house, goes back to her car and sunshine K-Pop music plays. Fucking waste of a good, not just anime, film.
Conversely, Twin Peaks is the closest thing I've seen to an anime in live action.
Somehow I doubt this. The ending seems to wrap things up too cleanly, and I suspect that this might be intentional, in order to mask the layers of ambiguity that actually exist in the film.
Flipping the script: What if Kon adapted an Aronofsky movie?
Considering how easily it was adapted into Deadly Premonition (I know that's not exactly anime but still), that's a good point.
jesus christ Sup Forums mods are fucking morons
Why? It's an anime film. It's appropriate on Sup Forums.
Perfect Blue is anime Mulholland Drive.
only capeshit and meme wars allowed my fren
>Perfect Blue
>a film
>get's moved from Sup Forums to Sup Forums
I guess only capeshit is allowed.
By far Satoshi Kon's best work, and one of the greatest anime movies ever made.
I don't understand how most of Sup Forums liked Paranoia Agent, Paprika, or Millenium actress. Below avarage works. Kon seems like a bit of a hack.
Same. Satoshi Kon was my gateway drug to anime.
Paprika and Paranoia Agent are good, they just go a bit shit at the end.
>Paranoia Agent
Except the end, it's still really good
>Millenium actress
>below average
This was literally his best work.
Mima, an up and coming idol, graduates from her idol group to pursue a career in acting. Her first gig involves a graphic rape scene and a risqué photo shoot. This causes her, her manager, and one of her old fans to snap.
Mima begins to lose her grasp on reality because 1. A blog written in Mima's name, but not by Mima herself, talks about intimate details of her life and accurately depicts her hidden feelings about the work she's doing. 2. She harbors resentment toward the writer and photographer who put her through these things, both of whom are murdered. 3. The plot for the character she plays on the show is about a girl who copes with trauma (including murder she committed) by believing she's an actress and those events were merely scenes.
After the show wraps, Mima (still struggling with reality) is attacked by Mi-Mania. After he fails to kill her, her manager attacks her in her home. It is revealed that the Manager ran the blog the whole time and that she, claiming to be the REAL Mima over the internet, convinced the disillusioned Mi-Mania to kill the people hurting her image (i.e. the show's writer, the promo photographer, and the "fake" Mima). A struggle ensues which ends with the manager gutting herself on a broken window.
Perfect
Blue
Kon's magnum opus, he literally could not top this film.
A masterpiece of a movie.
You can do it!
...
Haunting
it was perfect
it was blue
Better than Suspiria? Dunno about that . I liked it better than Black Swan, though.
I liked that...What are you talking about?
Paprika is the hottest garbage I've ever watched. I don't understand why people praise it so much, it falls short in everything it tries to accomplish and is just overall disappointing.
What's wrong with Millennium Actress?
^Visuals
Fine, I'll give it that much, but as far as things go it's just shallow, meaningless visuals. Paprika has no depth, aesthetics for the sake of aesthetics just doesn't translate well when the material presented is Freudian obscenities.
His worst work, outright.
