I think the pacing of the manga itself isn't bad. Whenever I re-read it, even the boat trip doesn't seem so bad. The true problems are the hiatuses, causing things that should take a few months last for years instead. So either you put Miura to work under a whip, or you make him change the manga's pacing to lightning fast to compensate, but neither is happening.

I don't mind that Miura takes his time to do something memorable. I can't think of an arc of Berserk that was actually bad, and Miura never introduced an asspull in the story. If he didn't know how to proceed a plotline he just goes on hiatus and tells his editor to fuck off.
